Pigeon on a pole(??)
I am working with my 9mnth pup on her pointing and holding till I can flush the bird. I think she is smart to the launcher. Someone suggested that I bag the launcher and try using "pigeon poles". His decsription was to get 20" pvc pipes and anchor them in the ground by slipping them over some rebar ...

Urinates while sleeping?
7 mnth old female pup will urinate while sleeping. She has been spayed. Had vaginitis before being spayed, but is showing no signs of that anymore.
Seems to be worse if she is tired from a day in the field. Something that she should outgrow? Just seems like a lack of bladder control(?)

Thanks for the replies! I have been getting her on as many wild birds as I can lately. Like earlier stated, I have a area that has quail in it. If I rest it a few days in between, I more then likely can get her on a covey or two. I have been just taking her to the field and letting her romp around a...

John, She is a pudelpointer. I actually read one of your earlier posts on what you expect from your dogs the first year and have used that as one of my guides per say. I just didn't want to be letting her do something that would cause me all sorts of problems down the road. I have to say, after hiki...

Dog on point-but releases when I try to move to flush birds
Had a good day last Friday. Took the dog (7mnths) to my training field and got into quail. This was the first time she has pointed the wild quail. There were actually a few coveys and she pointed a few times. I tried to move in front of her to flush the quail, but if I get any distance from her she ...

When to stop letting them chase birds?
Hopefully I havent used up all my question tokens. Appreciate all the help so far. Took 7 mnth pup out for some bird work today. I have been loading up the launcher with pigeons and working on her pointing. Using the launcher since I am training the dog by myself. I have not put a ton of birds in fr...

My hunch is that she is going to go get the bird, but she will probably play with it and not bring it back. I am going to have her on cc, so I can assist her with the retrieve if she needs encouragement. I have a few frozen quail. Would it be smart to play retrieve with the quail a bit prior to shoo...

Shooting first birds for pup..few questions
My pup is doing really well pointing birds (pigeons in launcher). This past weekend I introduced her to a blank pistol. Had her point bird in launcher, waited till she broke or till I flushed bird, let her chase and then fired blank pistol while she was chasing. She looked up the first time for a sp...

Good replys and no offence taken by any means. I want to do this right. My posts must come across like I am training the heck out of the dog. To be truthful, we haven't done a whole lot. Have worked on "here" and she is doing well. Trying to work on a few obedience issues around the house as mention...

Help with this mornings training-releasing birds no points
Took my 6mnth dog out this am for some dog work. It has been a few weeks since the last time we did this. I set out three pigeons. Two planted in brush (head tucked and spun) and the last in a launcher. She pointed birds on our last outing. First...there is no problem with her drive for birds. She i...

Preference-blank pistol .22 or .209?
I am going to start gun breaking my dog and need to buy a blank pistol. Don't really want to spend a bunch, since I have only one dog and it won't get used all that much. Any preference between a .22 or .209? Understand the .209 is louder. Figure I could back away farther with the .209 and work slow...

I really appreciate the responses... As some of you know, this can be really frustrating. I am trying to curb the beh...

My pup is just turning 6 months. I am having issues with her being over aggressive (in a play manner) with my 3yr old daughter and 7yr old son. She is more responsive when the cc is on, but it also could be the distance she is from me at the time the command is given. need some "here" help
Ok..so the more I lurk and read.. I keep seeing "let the pup be a pup". I can understand the logic and have been pretty soft with formal training. Basically working on "here" and playing fetch. Dog has been on some pigeons and did pretty well, but I have backed off on that a little. So, to my questi...

Releasing birds-dog points...then what?
I have a 4 month old Pudelpointer. Started releasing birds (pigeons) for her. I am planting the birds in high grass and also putting then in a launcher. This morning, I had to basically lead her to the first bird and she rushed it...I gave it the boot and off it flew. 2nd bird she pointed strong fro...

Thanks for the replies. We don't let her roam freely over the whole house. Doors are closed and a few gates are up to restrict where she can go. Plus we are always with her or in the same room.
