Bored with no hunting
I was bored with no hunting season open, so I headed to Ontario to hunt walleye. I wore my Pheasants Forever hat to feel like I was hunting. I had a good hunt and ate walleye every night. I even caught a couple of big throw back walleye. I also bagged my limit of mosquitos!! :D :D This trip should g...

Re: First Hunt - Looking for Tips
With a young dog you might want to hunt alone or with one gun if you take someone along. As garrison stated only birds handled properly should be shot. I believe the more birds shot over the dog the better and the more you take her out the more progress will be made. If you have fun the dog will to...

Re: Once more unto the breach dear friends!
Unless you post the pedigrees or post the titles on the dogs, people can't help you out. In American Field pedigrees you look for ch(field title) in front of the dog's names. In AKC pedigrees you look for FC or AFC titles(field trial dog title)in front of the dog's names or JH, SH, or MH (hunt test ...

I'm glad you found out that he likes to swim. That's a good exercise for him, especially in hot weather. See if you can find a NAVHDA club in Alabama that is close to you. They will have training grounds, birds, equipment, & people that can help you train. They have training days & you could go to one of them to see if you would like to join the club. Good luck with your dog.

Re: Brittany Puppy Training/Bird Exposure
I used to breed about 1 litter of britts every year or two. Starting about 6 weeks old, I would start exposing the pups to dead quail. By the time they went to their new homes, I had them carrying the dead quail around--I even had a few of them bringing them back to me and getting a treat in exchang...

After you posting the picture of your dog, I'm with slistoe -- the dog looks in great shape. I also agree with a once a day night feeding, it lets the dog digest the food and they can run on an empty stomach the next day without the bloat worry JMO. Good luck with the dog.

Do a web search for-- Satin Ball Recipes. These have a lot of calories in them and should be used as a supplement after their regular meal. Re: Recommended Training/Tracking Collars
Did you update the collar when you got it? It works better if you have the latest update. Garmin has the information on their website. My buddy had to update his when he got it (his mini collar updates a different way then his regular size collar does--he has both size of collars).

Welcome to the forum. You didn't put where you live. By saying where you live you might be able to come up with a training partner who has access to birds and training grounds. Another idea is look for a NAVHDA club in your area. Thru them you would have access to training areas, birds, and help wit...

The 509 launchers have a drop down door where you can load the birds from the end. It has a hole that goes thru the door--Take some duct tape and tape that hole shut-- If you don't, quail can stick their head out that hole and when you launch them it will kill or cripple them since their head is ou...

Re: Most common pointing breed
In Nebraska the most common hunting dog (pointing breed) is GSP. All the trials around here are mostly AKC so you don't see many pointers or setters running in them because most pointers and setters are registered American Field and run in American Field trials. In the AKC trials it is mostly GSP. A...
