Re: Closest working EPs
I am quite surprised that it hasnt been mentioned at all as of yet but there are Pointers that are bed for close working gun dogs. They are more commonly found prancing around a ring exhibiting their lack of beauty and grace and/or at a local hunt test struggling to get their Junior Hunter passes so...

Re: Thoughts on running green broke dogs
If the dog isn't ready then why would you want to run it? IMO its better to make sure you have prepared the dog and yourself for the trial. If you don't then your just wasting your money.
Re: Stakes?
The last stake I built I used a digging bar that I got at a Harbor Freight store. Already had a large flat spot to hammer on I just had to cut it to length. The digging bar was something like $30. The head on it is big enough that the "O" ring wont slip over it.

I am expecting my first litter and some recent discussions have come up about things to have on hand for the whelping and some things to do prior to whelping. Do you keep Oxytocin on hand? If so what is your reasoning for having it, when do you implement it, how often have you used it during a whelp...

Thank you for the plug Maverick57. In my opinion spring time is a better time of year to get a puppy. Spring and summer are great times of the year to build a foundation i...

Re: Question about gun dog vs. shooting dog.
Ezzy, FTing isn't about hunting. More an evaluation of the dogs to find the best we can. To breed a better more biddable and attractive dog. They are performance events. When I take my dogs hunting I still want the same as I do when at a field trial. I want endurance, stamina, class and style. I wan...

Re: Question about gun dog vs. shooting dog.
IMO what is become or becoming a problem is there are to many 'rules' being written and to many 'ideas' being created as to what the standard of a stake should be. AKC keeps amending their rule book to suit peoples -type- of dog. What I think is wrong with this is they are dumbing down the standard ...

Re: Question about gun dog vs. shooting dog.
IMO they should be judged the same. The judgment should be in how the dogs applied themselves to that particular course on that particular day. It should not have anything to do with "running bigger". I have never liked the term running bigger. It is a subjective term that can be viewed differently ...

That is not correct, the Tracker beeps faster when the dog is standing, Marshal slower, can't remember about WLM, but all have a behavior mode. Folks, you need to ask yourselves why a slightly used $1,000.00 telemetry unit would sell for $200.00? A heavily used one sold for less that 50 bucks at th...

One nice advantage to the Garmin is the fact it will alarm at you when the dog is standing (pointing). As long signal hasnt been lost.
With telemetry you have to say to yourself that "the dog has been gone to long better see if he is standing".

Is it possible that the reason there isnt much close breeding going on in breeds like the GSP is the fact the most of those people are to afraid to do it? I would plan on making your trip at least a two day trip. Depending on the trailer you have may be a bit rougher ride than you may think. Horses do need to stretch their legs too.
