Will-kelly, probably about 20. and some of them werent neccesarily bumped, they may have been down wind of her and spooked up if she ran near them. Just to clarify, she didnt bump every bird, she had some good steady points. thanks for all the help!

Re: correcting hunting season problems
Yes i knew the consequences before doing it. From reading some theories of experienced gundoggers saying it is ok the first year to shoot bumped birds. So i assumed it must be correctable, and maybe even have some benefits if they are recommended it. We'll see, ill keep yal posted. thanks for any ad...

Well i had a feeling this was going to happen. 18month old GSP's first year hunting bobs in south TX. Came across different opinions on shooting bumped birds, and being a hunter i went with the one that meant shooting birds. I am not interested in field trials and other things like that at this poin...

i stopped using the frontline and advantix after findin ticks on my 2 dogs. I am sure it works but my thinking is that u just check them after each hunt and pull any off and watch for fleas at the same time. finally got a box for my xterra, at the wifes request. I havent taught them "whoa" and i have not used the ecollar on them while on point yet, other than on the young pup when she was creeping bad and i noticed it did help. I have used the ecollar with the stand command though, if you are familiar with the Bill West method that is the method, as well as...

looking for opinions on going back to the check cord for some fine tuning after a season of hunting. First season for both GSPs' (10months and 16months). I agree that the TT 70 is a good simple collar and in your price range. I got the field 90 and wish i would have saved the money and went with the 70, the only difference is the 90 has nick and continuous. I always use continuous and just tap it. If the dog isnt obeying then hold in until he/she doe...

When you do take her out, dont go back in until she pees or poops. When she goes bathroom inside rush her outside, if you catch her in the act. Dont bother rushing her out if you dont catch her doing the deed or you'll just confuse her, timing is very important.

Re: 4 month old and chucker question
I am no expert but you do not want your dog to catch too many birds...try pigeons instead of chukar to prevent it, or a launcher (which is a great tool to have anyway.) Some people never let their pointers catch a bird, others do a few times to develop confidence. Let hm chase the pigeons for a whil...

Training with birds is the fun part. Try doing it yourself, find a good source for pigeons and quail or other flight conditioned game birds. MAKE SURE they are good fliers, i had issues with that. Thats why pigeons are good, dog wont catch them. Ive been training two GSPs the past 18months, one of t...

look into the book "training with Mo", I believe the author frequents this forum at times too. one thing to remember is to never give a command you control. So if you do let her off the CC to run free, dont plan on giving the "here" command if she probably wont listen, until she is ecollar conditioned.

They are fine when im not home according to my wife. She has been there all day the past two weeks. It's when i'm home that that get worked up. Maybe cause i feed, train, and hunt with them i guess. But if she stands by the glass door that could care less. When im home we have to shut the curtain.
