Every dog is different, and will progress at its own rate.
Have you gone to any of the training with the dog and trainer?
You should take a day and work the dog with the trainer there so that you know how it is progressing.

I too like both, but if I had to choose I would pick wild birds every time.

I'm with the "two are easier than one" club. My wife will tell you how much easier it is to have two, well three, than one. They entertain eachother and help to clean each other when needed.

I use a 12 foot horse lead that is 3/4 inch thick. It works well and doesn't pick up weed seeds. For a training collar, I use Dave Walker's.

I have found that a feed that is higher in fat is easier to fry for dinner where a water must be added to one that is lower in fat.

Stick with a good adult dog food and you will be fine.

If you like labs and can only have the one dog, you can find breeders who breed for the pointing characteristics. My buddy got his from a breeder in Neb., I think the name is Thomson. His dog works well. About the only real problem that I have seen is the shedding. Good dogs, I just prefer Britts.
