Every dog is different, and will progress at its own rate.
Have you gone to any of the training with the dog and trainer?
You should take a day and work the dog with the trainer there so that you know how it is progressing.

I too like both, but if I had to choose I would pick wild birds every time.
I just get a kick out of taking friends and others out after chuckar, grouse and other forms of tasty vittals.

Texas Hog Hunting

I have a couple of buddies who keep suggesting that we take a couple of weeks and head to Texas to do some hog hunting.
None of us have done any hog hunting. What can I expect and when should we go?

I'm with the "two are easier than one" club. My wife will tell you how much easier it is to have two, well three, than one. They entertain eachother and help to clean each other when needed.

I have learned for all of the mentioned above. But, I leaned the most from two people, Don Hunt and Dave Walker, you just can't go wrong listening to and working will good dog handlers. I use a 12 foot horse lead that is 3/4 inch thick. It works well and doesn't pick up weed seeds. For a training collar, I use Dave Walker's.

I would say yes.
I pay $25 for 40 lbs of Kirtland brand from CostCo. Dogs do great and look good.

I have found that a feed that is higher in fat is easier to fry for dinner where a water must be added to one that is lower in fat. :wink:

Other than that, I agree, use an als feed.

Stick with a good adult dog food and you will be fine.
I've done both and like the slower growth rate with the adult feed compared to the puppy feed.

If you like labs and can only have the one dog, you can find breeders who breed for the pointing characteristics. My buddy got his from a breeder in Neb., I think the name is Thomson. His dog works well. About the only real problem that I have seen is the shedding. Good dogs, I just prefer Britts.

I have seen dogs do this when one of them has had damage done to the ear and it is in the process of healing. Does the dog do it to every dog or just some dogs?
