Don't really understand your thinking here you do get to name the Dog right behind the kennel name which I think is standard practice. What's the big deal? you probably bought the Dog due to reputation of the kennel and pedigree. If the kennel name is not on the registered name how due you track pe...

Scott some burn through dogs, pounding a square peg in a round hole and blaming the "dog" or the "breeding". And keep culling dogs looking for that unicorn of a puppy. No one has mentioned the collar to "run down a dog" The collar is used to make corrections at a distance immediately on an untethered animal. In my case always after a long process of behavioral shaping and overlaying the collar on cues taught at the end of a lead. The" running down" talk comes int...

IMO opinion this is the worst health problem in our breed(GSP) right now. Seriously? What about lines with cancer that kill hundreds of GSP's each year. Kidney disease etc? LD effects a very very very small portion of the GSP breed, and with responsible breeding it can be eliminated. But the hyster...

This is a question because i am ignorant on this subject, How does a judge score a dog in a released trial as opposed to a wild bird trial ? Is a find at an objective the dog goes to and has a find at a wild bird trial scored differently as a find in a released bird trial in an unlikely or haphazar...

Re: which gets you a placement
In a throw down trial I would place ground application over number of finds any day. I have seen dogs that go to all the right places that they would find wild birds and go birdless, all the while their brace mate is in the horse path pointing birds like crazy. Obviously the planter is the problem, ...

My pointer as a derby went birdless almost every time. He was always on the edges, never in the path. Yet his 8 month of old brace mate had 6 finds in the path. He won, I did not place.

There is a lot of luck involved, but the birds move quite a bit. I drew course 2 at our CH this fall, we run on three courses. I ran on the last day, so two braces of dogs had ran through my course before I ran. We still got lucky and dug up a find on some sharpies to take RU.

I think that you are helping both judges and the other handlers if you pick up. If your not winning anything and you pick up,the judge can then watch the other dog which may be in contention. This will be helpful when the judges are discussing placements because both judges did see at least some of...

I don't know. As a new amateur without a ton of experience, I don't see any reason to leave a dog down if it's not getting anything done, especially in a 1hr trial or championship. I agree and maybe they should go back to the good old days when there was an AKC trial on each end with Region 12 sandwiched in the middle. That's why I will never buy from a "breeder"! I feel more comfortable buying from someone who is active in what interests me. Which is hunting and trialing. Or just breed my own, which I like even better.
