Www.ufta-online.com look under events for last year for events in GA and contact those folks with interest. They will know who would be good to meet and train with locally. Frank Arnau is president and in GA, his contact info is also on the site.

Re: teaching a Brittany to flush

I had my Brittany doing this on wild pheasants for years and the only own raised birds she ever saw were state released ones. Did it some on grouse but mostly roosters and it was deadly as stated above. No trials here that I know of that allow this, pity. Pheasants in edges of old reclaimed farms, 4...

Re: teaching a Brittany to flush

I have always thought teaching pointers to flush on command was the most effective way of getting game bagged. Allows the shooter to position better and not get all tangled up on cover for the flush. My Britt was the best at this back before I started trials and learned that this was frowned upon. I...

Most places that run trials keep cover short so walking judges can see the dogs. Since live ammo events are scored partly on the number of birds found, everyone wants to make sure they have the same number of birds as the next guy, none walking out. To manage that in short/thin cover, birds are plan...

Re: National Bird Dog Circuit

Very few pointing dog owners train their dogs to do blind retrieves. Most are happy if the dog hunts dead and stands in the bird it brings it part way. In these competitions, the handler is not allowed to move so forced to manage this. I have seen some that train to hup and back just like retrievers...

I had a britt that was great at this. My last ES was fair. Looking back at their experiences, if I wanted to try and train this, I would work a big running dog downwind along fence rows.
