I don't have a tool recommendation, but I was just curious: do you cut off the tip of the quills first? I have been told they are hollow, and if you clip the tip off the come out much more easily.

that is very strange. I know we think ears when there are questions of balance, but it makes me wonder about his eyes. it might be that on open ground he can see well enough to know up from down, but in the tall grass with a limited field of view he can't. just a thought.

Just an update on the Seresto collar: we have been using these on both of our dogs (almost 2 year old Britt and 15 year old mini poodle) for just over two weeks, and I have to say I am impressed. It is very dry this year in the northeast, so that may be affecting the tick numbers, but I have found o...

My vet is recommending Bravecto, too. He trialed it on his bird dogs during the fall season and did not find any ticks on them (very unusual for here in NH).

I am going to make the switch this spring, as soon as I use up the topical stuff.

I see flickers on the ground pretty frequently. they are insect eaters, but don't catch them on the wing -- they eat ants and beetles on the ground, using their tongues to eat out of holes in the ground.

when I got my Britt, we already had a geriatric miniature poodle that is more cat than dog. when we adopted the poodle, he was about 5 years old and had clearly been allowed on the furniture by his previous owner. so we quickly gave up trying to keep him down, he is a snuggler. of course, that meant...

I am not a vet, but the more I look at your pictures, the more I am convinced it is a blocked tear duct. Is the eye watering/draining more than usual? if the tear duct is blocked the moisture will tend to overflow the eye and run down the cheek. moist heat might help, if he'll let you hold a warm wa...

The next time you get a grouse (or any game bird) don't field dress it. Hang it for several days in a cool place. I would let a grouse hang for at least 3-4 days. Then pluck (or skin it) and clean it. Much more tender, much more flavor. Pheasants I hang for a week or so. Cook like any chicken recip...

I doubt it would be frostbite, since the armpits would be one of the warmer places on a dog, much more likley on nose, ears, toes just like in people. We have had a few other people here with similar issues, and most often it sounds like something plant/environment related, something that is coming ...
