Re: MICRO CHIP
There has always been some controversy about planting an electronic device such as a chip near living tissue. This is not dissimilar to the issues bantered about regarding cell phone transmission near one's head. I'm not aware of a definitive study proving a positive link between a chip and cancer ...

Re: Puppy Hip Question
It sounds like what the vet was saying to you was that he thought the hip joints were a little lax. I cant lay my hands on the reference book on HD, but as I recall the hip joint/ femoral head is still undergoing serious development at that age... not to mention what the muscles are doing. If the pu...

In answer to the original question of most coveted title, that is easy. His favorite title is "Spot." He has some other alphabet soup stuff, but doesn't seem to think much of it. I tried some of it on him and just got this: http://www.gundogforum.com/album/d/11757-2/Spot_s+Thoughts.jpg He is kind o...

Re: Is six months too soon?
There are a myriad of arguments that are out there, pro and con for neutering male dogs. Some are low likelyhood possibilities, some are pretty real. The one thing that is for sure is that male dogs (and horses) that are neutered young grow differently than their peers that are not. Testosterone is ...

Re: GW Crates Saddles?
There are two "Crates" The old Crates Leather/saddle company makes a very nice production saddle. We have owned several and they are very decent. We have a 17" roper for sale now if anyone is interested. GW Crate is made by Riders Choice Saddle Company. I cant remember ever having seen one of their ...

Re: serious ear wax
I second the "purple stuff"! if the ear is not red and swollen, the purple stuff works better than most anything else you can use. When you think about the mechanics of a dog's ear, you have a perfect environment for cooties to grow. It's warm and dark and nobody messes much with it... it takes litt...

Re: Need help talking wife into another dog
Have you considered an older dog that you wont have to go thru "puppy"? Two dogs is really not much more work than one, it may just be the puppy stages that she wants to avoid. !8 months is hardly enough to get over the puppyhood of the first one, another few months might make a big difference too.

Re: AT WITTS END.....Potty training
Didn't need the crate for potty breaking with my two, but had it set aside "just in case". I RELIGOUSLY let both of them out every 20-30 minutes (last call was at 11:00 pm - they sleep in the bedroom) & took them to the "potty/poop" spot (lots of praise when they went - kept saying "hurry Up" while...

Re: setter, britt questions
It really just comes down to the TAIL!!! LOL Other than that, there wont be a lot of difference between the two breeds grooming-wise. Some britts are hairier than other and the same with setters. They both run the gamut from relatively light coated to full coated.. and either one can be shaved down ...
Re: Bits?
First eliminate pain as the cause. An equine dentist will help with that... but you need to move to a much less severe bit. I almost never ride any horse in a bit other than a plain snaffle. If that is adequate to control an unbroke horse on day 1, its good enough for me for any horse. shanks = leve...

Brittanys are comfort oriented, social, love their people and want to be with them.... Have you considered letting her share your bed? It might be a better solution than sleep deprivation and/or divorce. We keep our bedroom cool (some might say downright cold) and Freckles sleeps under the covers. I...

I agree wholeheartedly with Charlie about how I as a breeder would deal with the issue. One thing to remember, there is a huge difference between congenital defects and inherited (genetic) defects. Lots of things can happen between fertilization and birth, not all of them caused by inherited defects...

IF the breeder has done their homework like the ought to (and why go to them if they dont?), then you should pretty much be able to close your eyes, stick a hand in and fish out a puppy that will be a decent enough hunter. I picked out a pup this summer out of a Barney's HiProof RonRico litter that ...
