Re: What pointing breed has the most natural retrieve?

There is noquestion in my mind that they have the heart and the grit to do darn near anything we could ask of them, but there are some things we should not ask. Heck, I can think of lots better places to be...for ME... when the weather is that BRRRRR nasty! Most of those places will have a nice war...

I will add that I have raised litters of my own pups in the past and will in the future once I get a very solid brood bitch.

Interesting proposition

I was hoping to get a little advice on an opportunity presented to me. In my search for a new pup I have come across a party that is interested in working a deal where I would take a pregnant bitch and care for her and pups until they are ready for there new homes in return for a puppy of my choice....

Re: Grouse Dog Range?

I will tell you IMO a dog inside of 25 yards isn't going to be very productive as far as pointing is concerned, the commotion from the two of you in such close proximity will eradicate your chances of getting a point on one with even the slightest bit of experience. I let my Pointer roll especially ...

SURE!! I jumped in and ran against pro's and am's, had never even watched a trial. We took a 2nd in our first and a 1st in our second in the coverdog scene I have a great dog ! Unfortunately she has a crook in her tail and I was told by many I would not be put up in the advanced trials so I never ma...

Great book! Not sure why it never really caught on :?: I trained with the authors in a small group for years and got to see first hand how well the program works. There is no doubt that it is a lot of work but once through it you have a very nice dog!

Re: scott kennels vs runs on concrete

People get way to emotional with the size of a Scott Kennel. I have both Scott Kennels and a 12x10 kennel and my dogs do the same thing in both, sleep and get up for an occasional P  It's no different when they are inside, curled up in a ball someplace sleeping. NO ONE should rely on ANY kenne...

Get your dog out on wild birds and don't say a word about anything. Let him figure out on his own he will not be shocked for finding/flushing/pointing game. Say nothing at all when he does wrong, no eye contact, words, etc. When he does right PRAISE the heck out of him, you have to really sell how p...

Sammy, the thread starter commented twice, and I have not read in either post, anything about breaking. So, where is this coming from? It does talk on the dogs actions with birds, and I asked a couple questions about why people feel this is happening, and yet has anyone answered, it all gets revamp...

[quote="Crystal kennels"]We avidly hunt our GSPs on Waterfowl. We have very cold temps especially late season here in NYS. We hunt the big lakes and ours hold up as well as any Lab or Chessie in the cold. I do use 5 mm neoprene vests. We hunt out of a boat blind and off land........ You have to be k...

Re: Need some training advice for spaniel..

Same goes for flushing dogs as with pointing. If you don't get the desired results you are looking for NO SHOOTING. You should have a dog that stops in the field reliably to the whistle and hand signal then you can move to stopping to the shot then move to stop to a thrown dummy then moving on to a ...

Was thinking of starting a business transporting dogs. I have the truck equipped with a topper and pretty sure with all of the people out of work it wouldn't be hard to find someone to drive it. It can be done, consecutive correct repetitions followed with Praise, it will take a little longer but on the flip side you will never need to worry about dead batteries and such. People seem to forget that an ecollar is not going to help unless the dog has been trained to know what is expected of h...

Patience! I had a young dog that did just what you are describing. I let him do his thing and when he went into a fit I would stop him with the whistle ( of course I trained him to stop in the yard) once stopped I would start toward him and he would see me and I would send him on. Also for all of you guys who like the PVC pipe go to an electrical supply house and ask for schedule 80 in the diameter of your choice and I will guarantee it will not break, bend, etc. Unless of course you do something dramatic

In this day and age where game is sparse we should strive to be conservationist and give 110% in retrieving all game, if the dog eats or mangles the prize rendering it inedible we may as well leave shot game in the field for predators to feed on rather than throwing it in the trash can.
