Re: Tell me about your best dog.

I'll jump... Sadie was my first hunting dog (GSP in the picture to the right) bought out of hunting stock, nothing fancy. I was 12 or 13 when I began training her. I had not idea what I was doing. (Gun Dog hand me down book and a dummy) She turned into one of the best dogs I've ever hunting with. I'...

I had a similar problem with my v. She liked to pickup the dummy by the rope. I solved that problem by cutting the rope off. Mossberg 20 ga pump. I used it for a few years until I thought it was time for a 12 ga. Went out and got the same model. I "traded" that mossy to my dad for his fathers Savage hump back. I guess its a matter of what feels right and the land your hunting. I've NEVER hunted with a dog out more than 30 - 50 yards. In the group I run with that dog would not be allowed back. I guess I just grew up learning that from the old guys. Thats one of the main reason I hunt with v's and not gsps ...

I don't use a long line to wear out a dog. I use a long line for containment to let the dog have fun. I wear dogs out by rollerblading, biking, hiking, or whatever else is available to me.
