The Garmin tt15 collar is so big my weims can hardly wear it. I cant imagine one fitting a brittany. Now I dont know about the ttmini and how it wears. I saw a video explaining the low medium high settings- if I understand it the shock is the same for each just occurs more rapidly for medium and hig...

I believe it is simple .... I want the dog to point the bird. Not where it was. Not in there somewhere. The dog and man work as a team.

Re: Question about JGHV, FF, JGV-USA and steady to WSF
I asked a vdd judge about this "European " style. He replied we score dogs higher who can relocate on their own and work as a team with their handler. I find the trials a joke where the dog points a bird from some distance and the handler has to try and find the bird to flush. heck I could just go h...

Re: ever had hunting success with a rescue?
This guy had a rough go of it in his first couple years of life, not a good fit for a rookie birddog family. We ironed out most of the issues and he has been finding and pointing birds for me ever since. He is 100% attached to his people. Would I go out and intentionally find a rescue in hopes of t...

Great pics, glad you are finding birds. I dropped a bird tonight over a slough, watching it come down I looked at water and thought oh heck it is half ice. It was half mud and small frozen spots. 1 muddy dog came back with a even muddier pheasant. That slough has never been close to dry . In hunting S...

I have a good friend who farms. We have hunted his land for 40 years. He has never had a dog but has used his relatives , or 1 of mine , or my brothers on occasion. You teach whoa with or without the collar, I would use the collar , and then use whoa to stop him on birds.

Ryan's post is my thinking also. If you have a good supply of wild birds, forget the launcher. He might be easily intimidated by the launcher and it is easy to have a malfunction. You don't need to circle out along ways just make sure he can see you , maybe 5 yards or so. Attitude and body language...

I pheasant hunt mostly small pieces of ground so I know what you are trying to accomplish. I use the tone feature to get the dogs attention and then hand signals for changing direction. I think of the tone as similar to calling the dogs by name to get their attention prior to a command like- Spot he...

This is some solid advice. Training with a navhda group will expose the pup to more of a "event" setting.OhioVizsla wrote: βTue Sep 15, 2020 7:13 amI wouldn't give up, sounds like a great dog. I would train her to be steady to wing & shot. This will stop her from going in on the point.

Training 2 pups is at least 3X the work
It is nice to have more then 1 dog during hunting season, but the solo dog gets more attention.
Good luck in whatever you decide and be sure and let us track your progress!

The tests are set up so the dogs are supposed to hunt for a period of time. Problem is a new duck is released for each dog regardless of previous dogs success. A dog doesn't have to retrieve a bird as long as the do a exhaustive thorough search. So the 3rd dog to go may encounter any of the previous...

AG those are fine dogs, well trained! You have a excellent description of the duck search. Your assessment of the "utility " test is spot on.
