Re: Training Progression NAVDHA UT Duck Search
I'm also in the beginning stages of teaching UT duck search, but behind the curve compared to you. We started (with a NAVHDA Judge and a professional trainer donating his time) throwing dead frozen ducks out there into the reeds as far as we could. For a dog that was more "intermediate" than mine, h...

I was in your position a year or so ago, a new puppy owner who wanted to train well but also deathly afraid of ruining the dog. I did see a dog returned to a breeder that was afraid of the bird field he was so shell shocked by the collar. So read my advice knowing i'm an amateur with my first dog. I...

My dog has them. The breeder said he'd never had an issue with his dogs having them cause problems, so never saw a reason to screw with Mother Nature. I talked to a veterinarian that said he went back and looked at injury data...20% of injuries to the toes/claws involved a dewclaw. So, no worse than...

I also think there is something to the Nobility being able to have their own kennels and develop their own breeds into something they specifically wanted, that was specific to their (very substantial) estate.

If one does a little google searching, you can come up with what seems to be a legitimate article here and there documenting the occasional story of a dog killed in a trap, but I have to admit, such incidents do seem few and far between, so I feel a little better about that threat possibility. I do...

Can't say that I've ever really heard of a timber Wolf killing a bird dog. I read about it once, in Alaska, but it was a Field and Stream or Outdoor Life piece, so rare enough to be newsworthy. I've never heard of a porkie killing a dog. Conibears, I have heard about, but given the number of hunters...
