Re: Started Dog
First of all it is buyer beware. I would never buy a "started dog" with out seeing what the dog can do. A trial dog that doesn't run big enough is one thing a dog that has been screwed up in one way or another is a horse of a different color. Not all folks with dogs for sale are honest. If you don't...

Re: Chasing pigeons then quits!
Will the dog point? Why would you let the pup catch a carded pigeon? I would not let the pup catch another bird until he was pointing well. Once he was pointing I wouldn't let him catch a bird that was not shot or mock shot. You are blessed with wild birds so use them. A check cord is the way for no...

Check out Cabalas and or Bass pro shop. I always carry a light pair of rain gear. A strap vest with more pockets than you think you will need is a good idea too. Go on line and look at all the vests to get an idea and go from there. What ever you decide water proof clothing is always a good idea.

OK this one really makes me chuckle. The minute you buy a dog and a gun to hunt upland game you are in the hole. When you factor in care for the dog or in my case dogs the cost of a vehicle to get you there and fuel you will never recover the monetary cost. For me and the people I know it is all abo...

There is such a thing as a pointing lab right? I see them for sale and advertised as such so what is the big deal about this video? It does look like the dog is being trained to point or they are trying to improve and advance this behavior. So am I missing something.

One of the best ways to screw up a young dog is to hunt in a large group and there is plenty of reasons for this statement. Perhaps you can take your dog off a good ways from others in the crp. Unless things have changed the dna test used just shows the parents are the parents. If mars testing or the equivalent are used things may change. I would guess some eyes would be opened as well. Cross breeding is still going on.

This is a pup, right? If that is the case working him on 2 or 3 birds a day rather than 10 in one day would better serve your pup. One can sour a pup by to much work and no play. Carded birds are for check cord work only until the dog is steady and you can go on to the next step in training. A good ...

The man ask about messing up a pedigree. That may allude to trying to register the pups. CJ and Greg are correct when talking about huge running gsp or brits. If mars testing is ever done instead of a simple dna test folks might get a surprise.

You may find a bit of hybrid vigor in a cross like this although they may share some of the same ancestors anyway. If you think there is some advantage to this cross and you are not planning on faking some papers to register the pups as one breed or the other go ahead.

One of the ranches we hunt will not even allow shod horses off of established roads let alone vehicles. I'm pretty sure they think the fire danger is far above average and very real. The wind and a very dry fire load make for a dangerous combination kind of like ignorance and arrogance. The answer t...
