I agree. I think that is why I have had success with repeat breedings. I seldom do a drastic outcross.gpblitz wrote:IMO your chances are better on a line breeding repeat since you have a tightened gene pool vs a repeating breeding on a outcross.

You are exactly right...you will up your odds considerably from a repeat breeding. It's still no sure thing but it does up your odds.

Both come in all flavors and colors. Both can produce big runners, shoe polishers and everything in between. It's not about English or Llewellin. It's about finding a breeder that produces the type dog you want.

Here's another vote for the SKB. I like the older fixed choke models. The 100 series or the 200 series. The 100's have splinter forarms and extracters where the 200's have beavertail forearms and ejectors. They are pretty much the same gun otherwise. I have some of both and like them all. I don't li...

That pissing match between the Kings and FDSB was no fun for any of us Llewellin people but things have settled down now for the most part. My personal complaint about the ordeal was the fact that I bought a pup from them just before their suspension. They knew they were going to be suspended and so...

If I wanted a close working Llewellin with nose I would consider Wilbur Williams in Linclon, IL. His breeding program is designed to produce the kind of dog you describe. I will vouch for him as an honest person.

My avatar dog caught a squirrel when he was a pup and got bit on the nose. He has hated them with a passion ever since. I like having two chokes better than having three shots. I am a big fan of SKB sxs's and o/u's.
That being said I do have a Benelli Ultralight that I use on rainy days. It is a good reliable gun that is pretty much weather proof. For an automatic, It's not too ugly.

My Vet is a bird hunter. In fact he hunts over a dog he got from me. He fully understands that hunting dog owners are different from fu-fu dog owners and that we do not require the same type service. His understanding of that fact is reflected in the prices he charges hunters.

IMO cold and heat tolerance are genetic to a certain extent. Dogs that are bred for several generations for the grouse woods are likely to be cold tolerant. The dogs we breed here in the South are bred for heat tolerance.

Just my opinion..but single shot hammer guns are dangerous in the hands of kids. Those hammer springs can be too strong for youngsters to handle safely. They also kick like a mule.
