Seriously, how many of you would expect every pointer from any breeder at nine months of age, with one month of some kind of training, having spend only one week with a new owner to be bold and perform well out hunting the first time? Fellow Red Raider here. I second the advice of Ray and Greg. Walter's book is at least 30 years old and was not particularly good in the first place. Live Birds and Huntsmith, not wings, strings and Walters.....specially at your dogs age.

55 degrees farenheit, 50% humidity, wind about 10 mph from any direction, but the east. These are the best conditions for hunting quail in Texas.

I second the "heck of a quail gun". Very quick mounting and the gun I used to shoot five quail with five shots on a covey rise the only time in my life.

I had a case of double AA's completely submerged in flood waters for about three days. They were still wet when I got to them, but had no rust on the bases. I took them all out of the boxes, dried them with towels, left them out for a week or so while the boxes were drying, put them back in the boxe...

I have fed my dogs the Exceed 30/20 chicken for the past couple of years. I bought some last month without paying attention, and just noticed the bag lists Protein 30 and Fat 16. Has the formula been changed or perhaps the govt. has changed the way ingredients are calculated?

Why not go with a 6 ft. privacy fence? Then you can walk around naked in your backyard as a bonus. As an aside, I own a landscaping company, and we've built several miles of various forms of fences. The cost between a 5 and 6 ft. fence should be fairly negligible, so what is the purpose of wanting ...

I've seen the question regarding hunting trial dogs. How about the reverse? I trialed one of my hunting dogs this weekend. She is almost six years old and had one prior trialing experience a couple of years back. She won the AGD at the Lone Star GSP Walking Trial Saturday. Here's to you Freckles. :D...

I know a couple of pros that only train for MH. They eschew both Jr. and Sr. If you don't want your training exposed to deterioration from interaction with lesser trained dogs, it makes sense.

Get a one-inch piece of PVC. Get a quick link that will fit in the end. Run the quick link through the snap, insert the quick link into the end of the pvc, drill a hole through the pvc, insert a bolt through the hole and the end of the quick link, secure the bolt with a nut.

Turns out I was half correct on the puppy/derby. Dennis got a first and third in the puppy....didn't have a derby with a find. Boy was the only placement in the Amateur. Bandit had a real nice run and a back, but didn't have a find. Deja had a find in a thicket, but handler could not produce a bird ...

Bill, I don't think they did any good in puppy/derby. Boy's was our gang's only placement in the Amateur and the Open Gun Dog was still underway....it was a pretty big stake at 38 dogs. Boy did not have a point in the Gun Dog, just a stop to flush. I understand it was not as difficult as last year, ...

I am much better at live birds....I shot sporting clays for the first time this summer and in a way was disappointed with many of the shooting presentations. I shoot upland birds only and never in 50+ years of hunting have I taken a shot where the bird was 35-40 yards away to begin with and going aw...
