Re: Spaniels for upland and ducks
Good reply fourtrax... looking more along the lines of what program to use though with my girl. This is my first gun dog, and my first experience with a spaniel. I know some people say they are very soft and you have to be careful with how you train them. Don't know what truth there is to this as I ...

Spaniels for upland and ducks
With my puppy pick-up fast approaching I wanted to ask some questions. I realize all dogs mature at different speeds and etc so not looking for a time line, but here's my situation. I'm getting an English cocker pup. I plan on using her mainly for grouse, rabbit and waterfowl (I know nothing late se...

Re: I need another dog...
Why is him being huge such a priority? If you're looking for a lab, I can't imagine there's any out there that couldn't handle a pheasant... Unless you have some real monsters there lol.

I live in town so she will need a leash and collar before she's 6 months old. I do like your check cord idea though Don, thanks!

Re: Hello from Los Angeles
Nice dog! Welcome, I'm new here as well. As for the side discussion on training collars, I think it's funny that the dog's size is the deciding factor lol. A choke collar or a prong collar are for training purposes (should that be the way you train) and size of the dog really has nothing to do with ...

He's only 4 months old, puppies have selective hearing lol. Wait till he's older to use the e-collar. He's still a pup, a very young one at that.

Slip lead length
Well since I'm a week away from picking up my cocker pup I wanted to know everyone's opinion on something. I know I will need to get a slip lead soon and probably already should have, but here's my question... What is a better choice - a 4' lead or a 6' ?

I've never even hunted woodcock as I've never seen one. I'm a grouse nut so I'm sure woodcock is just as awesome. Maybe once I get myself a dog I'll have to give it a go in the fall.

New gun dog owner
Hey all, I posted an intro about myself in the Introduction area but it hasn't showed up quite yet. I was directed here by a member from another forum I am on and see some familiar names on here! Anyways, I'm from Ontario and am obsessed with hunting and anything involving the outdoors. We currently...

If you ever hope to trial or compete in anything you need to be registered. That's good enough reason right there.

Re: Does it matter to you?
A title shows that the dog has proven itself in the field and was recognized for it. Doesn't mean that a dog can't be just as good or better even, but if you see titles in the pedigree at least you have something to go on. For me, not knowing much about my breed or having one before, I was definitel...

Re: A little about you...
Hey all my name is Nick and I was directed here from some other forums I am on (username is usually Cass). I am 26 yrs old, have a 5 year old daughter and an avid hunter. I live in Ontario and we currently own a mini dachshund. Next week I am heading to Ohio to pick up my first proper gun dog - a fe...
