Elk hunter, that is the best cover I have seen in two years. You must not have the draught conditions we have out here. Have a great year with the dogs. I'm pretty sure I would kill for that kind of cover over here.

I love my sxs but they kick like a mule. I'm inclined to flinch a little with heavy recoil so I shoot a beretta xplor 4 for most of my shooting. If I use my sxs twelves I shoot a 20 gauge load and get by ok.

There's trained and there's natural ability. I can train a poodle to point a lightbulb. Do you want a well trained parent or a product attained from the producer, littermate or direct offspring of a natural? Only a natural will attain the highest level of competition. Plenty of practice with the av...

Re: Training with pigeons question
Some dogs tire of pigeons and some rather quickly. You just have to switch to a different training bird. Some dogs catch on to training games and a person just has to be smart enough to see it. Use chukar or quail.

 This subject like many may be getting a little off track. What type of dog one owns very likely depends on what and where one hunts. As an example we hunt mostly chucker. Last season bird numbers were down to the point it was the poorest I've seen in 40 years. We were walking about 3 miles per...

I hunt AA bred pointers and have for more years than some of you have had dogs. One needs to understand that a big running dog does not run by birds 100 yds. away to find birds 500 yds. away. They will range until they find birds or you turn them or they turn themselves. I expect my dogs to stand ti...

In all my years of hunting, and that includes hunting coyotes, I have never seen a pack. The closest was three dogs following a gyp in heat. I have had dogs kill coyotes and never the other way around although a couple of dogs did get ate up a little. Now those fifty lb. coyotes in the north east wo...

Neil, I don't know if you were there this year. The weather was a determining factor. The first few days the birds were kegged up in the brush and some dogs did go in after them. Any book would probably be more beneficial than Ben o's. Most modern trainers employ an ecollar at some point. There are plenty of good training methods that you can tweak to suit you but it would be better to find one and stick to it.

$30.00 is a good price straight through for yotes. A 60.00 dollar coon is unheard of. In the northwest the top price is paid based on the Montana #1 yote. Here you can get a permit to live trap birds of prey and relocate them. I don't know if this is still the case but if it is you might check with your federal game warden. I happen to believe a person has the right to protect their livestock. How one goes about it is up to them.

Some of you should learn where the money in the farm bill actually goes. It all sure does not go to farmers. Also there is a vast difference between corporate farmers and independent farmers. It sounds very much like this dog has had no training. If she came to you with worms and other health issues she was probably not well cared for.
