Its cheaper to buy dogs from good professional breeders breeding to improve the breed , than it ever is to breed them yourself and a lot less hassle, if your thinking of breeding dogs to save money, you wont.

Well the biggest difference is the German Shorthair is more likely to have a strong natural retrieve especially water retrieve, and a better tolerance to cold weather so where you live should have some impact on your choice. Bird dogs are a lot of dog for a first time dog owner.

You might want to consider buying a trained dog and having the trainer give you some lessons in handling it, then let that dog teach you about birdogs.

depends on the dog and what you are using it for. On a pup get a dummy collar and file down the points and put it on him everytime you walk him ect. long before you use a live collar.

When the time comes you are using electricity you dont want the dog to know the collar is the source.

How old is the dog?

I teach sit to all my shorthairs,it doesnt effect whoa.

I never FF them, everyone I've ever owned retrieved just fine.

I teach hold gently then fetch usaully after their first complete hunting season, if you dont over do it most shorthairs like to retrieve.

In my opinion it will lead to the dog breaking and flushing, once my dog points I will do the flush.

I prefer to have the dog at my side or behind me anyway when I shoot.

But different strokes for different folks, if you want to do it its none of my beeswax..
