Re: Getting started in Field Trails and Hunt Test???
If you could join a local club , especially one that is of your breed if possible. That would be the easiest . You would make friends with people knowledgeable with your breed and you would be on mailing list for trials, hunt test, fun training days ,etc.

If the breeder lets his puppies go at 7 weeks you do not want your puppy left alone for 3 more weeks , even if he makes special effort to socialize.
We let our puppies go at 7 weeks . We have many repeat clients and have observed no problems.

the breeder should be able to give sire, dam, litter registration and if it was restricted. With that information your friend could contact AKC and explain problem.

definitely invest in length over width. Mine are 12X4 and work fine. Four foot width seems pretty common . If I had to build a kennel for only one dog I might go to six width so they could stay away from stools easier and also if you get a long tail breed it may help to not get tail banged up too mu...

Many dogs will never be field champions no matter how much work they receive. So be prepared to either be willing to sell the dog after you have put a lot of time and emotion into him so you can get another, and another or be willing to own a lot of dogs.Sometimes you get lucky and this doesn't happe...

Did you train them by letting them walk outside on a landing board? When you feed make a noise maybe shaking a can with pebbles .That way they associate the noise with food and will come in. Let them out before you feed. There is a good post in the hall of fame section about pigeons

If the puppy is for a breeding program a female gives you chance to breed to the top males of your breed ,also you have a chance to observe all of the puppies from each breeding. For most dogs I think 10 months is probably too early to break to wing and shot, but that varies with the dog. So with that part of the training I would say try if the dog tells you he is ready but don't put a lot of pressure to get this part done.
