Bell's Oberon comes out next week......I know March 21 is the first day of spring, but spring doesn't really start for me until Oberon's available!

Re: Subaru and Westminster
I don't think there has been any affiliation with HSUS but they have given money to ASPCA, which is a different organization. At least ASPCA operates ONE shelter (which is better than HSUS's none).

Re: Need a new vehicle...opinions please
I just got a 2012 Subaru Outback last fall and I LOVE it!! Great gas mileage (close to 30 mpg freeway), plenty of room for stuff, and you can't beat the AWD. I got a manual because I personally like driving a manual better and it's the smoothest shifting manual I've ever driven. No fancy extras on m...

Re: Dog drooling badly when left alone in crate?
As someone who has personally experienced separation anxiety with a Weim, I really feel there's not a whole lot you can do. Mine's almost 12 now, and after trying soooooo many different avenues, training, devices, etc. the only things that we found that truly helped were 1. getting another dog and 2...

If you like Blue Moon I would definitely recommend trying Bell's Winter White I wish we could get more Great Lakes stuff up here, their Christmas Ale is awesome (but a little bit dangerous LOL )!Knightfarms wrote:Blue Moon for me.
Great Lakes Brewery just put out an Irish ale that's nice, too.

Any Bell's beer.....but especially Oberon, available spring-summer :D I've only had the Two Hearted Ale from Bells, good stuff! Ever had the Special Double Cream Stout from Bells? I'm wanting to give that a try. I've not tried that one but then I'm not a big stout fan. Bell's Winter White is excell...

What a cool pic! Is that you and your dogs? I sure don't look that fancy when I go out--usually in sweats and my older used skis I got two years ago It is a ton of fun though. Just wish Michigan winter would get on schedule and give us some dang snow!

I use sled dog harnesses; skijor with them in the winter and bikejor when it's warmer out. Great conditioning for the dogs, and for me too when it comes to skijoring!

My older GSP is the same way, but get out a tennis ball or a disc and the cold is completely forgotten. Even funnier is how much he hates the rain, yet has absolutely no problem flinging himself 20 feet off the end of a dock

Re: Blue weimaraners
If DQ means disqualification? Then the breed club decides what that is...for example if the American Brittany Club wants the height standard at the shoulder to be a limit of 81" the AKC doesn't give a rat's hind end...they change the standard...at least that is what the AKC reps told me... It's my ...

Re: Blue weimaraners
Again, like I said the registering of DQ's applies across the board in AKC, so I don't think it's a breed club decision. On the other hand, UKC IS a privately owned, for profit business, yet they will not accept DQ's for registration. If you put down on your registration that your Lab is 'silver,' U...

Re: Blue weimaraners
That is very true that registries are as honest as the people using them. However, the registering of DQ's is across the board, not by breed, so I would say that is an AKC policy and not a breed club decision. I just don't understand what the point of having DQ's in AKC is if they will still registe...

So long hair weims are not recognized by AKC? Does the German Club accept them? Yes the German club accepts them, as do most other clubs (including CKC.) My Weims grandfather was a long hair from Germany. The German club does not accept blues (most don't) but I believe there are a couple kennel clu...

Re: Scientific Paper on Dominance Theory in Domestic Dogs
I think research into dog behavior is exploding, and we're going to continue to learn more and more. I think there are a lot of old school misconceptions about behavior and beliefs as to why dogs do different things, and with all the new research coming out we're going to get a better understanding ...

I've always thought dog show people should be well-versed in breeds, but apparently not. I've had several show people call my black ticked GSP a bluetick without a tail. The WORST was a guy who was apprenticing to become a judge called my solid liver GSP a DOBERMAN. WOW. To my knowledge he is still ...

Abbe Lane Kennels in Michigan has alot of HH in their lines. I have two GSP's from their lines, and they have bred back to my younger male. I'd recommend their dogs to anyone.

I have two GSP's who have been easy dogs, they turn it on in the field and other activities (weight pull, disc, skijoring) but have off buttons for the house. They are excellent house dogs. I also have a Weim who is on Prozac (she's 11!) and went on many destructive rampages in her younger years. Nu...

Speaking of GSD's, that's another reason I like the UKC show ring, you actually see working dogs getting put up. I've seen plenty of judges put up WORKING LINE GSD's over those awful broken down triangles that people call GSD's.

Re: DEUTSCH KURZHAAR ..GSP ?? Are they not the same?
I do think the DK people do a much better job on health/conformation than many/most of GSP breeders, and they are more oriented on a singular goal, as opposed to GSP where you have many branches of the breed... AF dogs, AKC FT dogs, Navhda dogs, AKC hunt test dogs, Dual dogs. (Of course some of the...

Re: DEUTSCH KURZHAAR ..GSP ?? Are they not the same?
In my mind they are the same breed, maybe different types. The potential issue I see with DK's in the US is that unless they continuously import, the gene pool is going to shrink and shrink, which is not good for any breed. I'm all about genetic diversity. I don't like that they will dual register w...

My name is Sara, I'm a 31 year old attorney in Michigan. I'm relatively new to bird work with dogs, started about 1.5 years ago, but not new to dogs. I have 2 GSPs (that's who's listed in my signature): Ozzy who's 2, and Oskar who's 9. I've also got an 11 yr old Weim, 6 yr old ACD, and 2 yr old Bord...
