The line of dogs i have been researching are only considered champions if they have proven themselves in the field as well as on the bench. you failed to mention temperment and conformation.

With close breedings the breeder needs to be honest,reputable, have a buy back contract and I like to hear what the goals are.
Are they going to keep a pup?

Breeding is all about the quality of the dogs involved.

They are specific in that they are pointing dog or retriever.
Most of the organizations are geared toward field,some have higher retrieving standards than others and NAVHDA is geared toward versatile hunting.

I will start my tactical guilt-trip process of making her feel bad for being the reason we lost our dog even though it hasn't actually happened. Its a strategy that i learned from my Mom and it is highly valuable.

When it comes to dogs testing within the german system the timeline is very important.
These dogs are supposed to be bred to mature early.

You can work the field, you are not required to walk along with the judges,you can walk ahead as long as you are "in a group". You are out for a hunt with your dog, that's what the judges want to see. I would not handle a dog other than to maybe call him off a chase and if I KNOW the dog will comply...

where did you ever get the idea that you would be hunting a pointing dog its first real season BROKE?
Let this dog figure it out for himself. As long as he obeys HERE,FETCH,WHOA (when not on birds) he will learn to handle these birds.
Break him after this season.

I don't think he is listening on the cc, instead only controlled by it, giving the impression of obeying.
Put him on a 100' cc, hook it up to the one you are currently using.
Do the suggested CCing by Evan Graham.
Use the ecollar to enforce. Right now, he doesn't know he's supposed to obey off lead.

This being his first season you may not want to shoot instead take advatage of the training opportunity. You will need to pay more attention to your dog then to shooting.
Can your friend put a rope on his dog to prevent him from a few retrieves and you can send your dog?
