We use prong collars. They are called pwoer steering. 9 weeks is too young.

The wonder lead would not work for our issues. We only use it when everything else does not work.

If you are working them off foot, 30- 60 minutes is not going to hurt anything 3 days in a row.

If you are roading or free-running off a quad, in my personal opinion you are asking for trouble.

I know of at least 10 vizslas who are titled DC that are excellant at hunting who have met the breed standard. These are just the dogs I have seen alive and breathing locally. I have seen MANY more that are capable of the title but who are never campaigned because of no desire to do so or not enough...

This is why I don't think that traps are the silver bullet that some other people on here do. The new people see that launchers are awesome so they think they have to go out and get some and have no idea how to properly use them. The result can be to sour a dog to them so they can't be used later......

I see people using those crappy little nylon collars so loose that you could stick a whole arm through it - and I just shake my head.

Any dog who comes to our place with one and stays in our care promptly is replaced with a proper colar like Vman is talking about.

I had a 6 month old dog come right out of the box and smoke lots of older dogs. I've run other dogs who needed time and experience to develop. Just depends. I would put the dog down in puppy stakes to see what it can do and go from there. Have fun and learn!

My dogs wear their collars much tighter around the neck and I have seen LOTS of dogs worked in the thick brush, heavy fields, woods, etc and never once seen a collar hang up.

Not saying it never happens, just saying it is highly unlikely if they are worn properly.

I think 5 weeks is too early, in my opinion - unles syou have observed the litter every day for the last 5 months. I can go to a Dog Show and pretty much pull the ones out who have never been hunted for their intended purpose. Shame, really.

I have a DC and paid a handler because I can't stand being there in person and I want to grab the judges and show them FORM really means.

I've worked young dogs through it, but not older dogs.

It takes lots of patience and lots of birds.

I've also worked 2 horse through it as well. Funny how the process is the same, but using different stimulants.
