there are many differences as mentioned above and although i have not competed in nstra, i imagine not only the rules but the atmosphere would be very different. i think the biggest difference would be the akc being judged on a standard vs nstra being a placement event. not to say it doesn't happen,...

a good grouse dog takes many seasons to develop..... sounds like he is well on his way. sometimes its logical stuff they don't think of until they get a little older, for example, he may be pointing on scent like he is supposed to... that is the easy part, but for a young pup it is not easy to SLOW ...

i have always been taught not to feed dogs before exercise because it could increase the chance of bloating issues, i don't know if that is common in GSPs or not.

i find my TT is loud enough for me on the low setting. i don't have much to compare it to except a lovetts which has a totally different sound. TT is higher pitched than the lovetts, i like the sound of the lovetts better but have a TT collar and like the remote locator.

it is not good to use the e-collar period on a young inexperienced dog when around birds, especially on high. i doubt your dog will ever catch the wild birds, she will figure out soon enough that the chasing plan isn't working. try doing a few yard work drills in the field before starting your hunt....
