Re: Dummy launcher/intro to gunfire
I use my dummy launcher all the time. My dog was steady through wing, shot and fall the first time we shot a bird over her at 11 months because of our work with the launcher. Her intro to the gun was also easy as our launcher was like a small cannon. In the beginning I had someone else shoot the lau...

I don't worry about whether I can see the ribs or not. If I'm concerned about the weight I check the hip bones. I want to be able to see them, but not the back bone. If I can see the back bone the dog is underweight. If I can't see the hip bones, time to go on a diet. I often check more by feel than...

You should also handle the dog yourself so the trainer can correct anything you may be doing wrong, but think you are doing correct. Take notes.

Re: Picking up my dog from Bird Dog School this weekend!
It's wise to work with the dog yourself with the trainer watching for an afternoon. You want to see how the trainer operates . You also want to know what are the next steps. I agree. Working with the trainer should generate questions as well. It does no good to have the dog trained if you don't kno...

Pass/fail they may be, but I'd rather pass with an A then a C. If I get a C I will check the scores to see how I can improve for the next test. But then I'm a bit of an over achiever.

Run her like normal. She will probably start slowing down around 5 or 6 weeks. You can and should still get her out, but just expect her to run slower and let her move at her own speed.

You can do that as long as you want, but the goal is to make sure the dog is excited about birds and not afraid of them. I would say more would be better than less on any of the steps in PS. Don't try to advance to quickly, but make sure the pup understands the step you are on before moving to the n...

Ah Ezzy the Alaskan husky which is what most sleddogs are do have a deep chest. Not sure what that has to do with bloat, but it does happen on occasion. I wouldn't say they are prone to it.

I had to learn this as I was a swimming official back when we used starting pistols and we were taught to hold the gun straight up so your arm covered you ear. It's much easier to just point it at the ground. Safer too.

Standard skijor lines are 8 feet. You want the line long enough to clear the ski, but not so long you wrap around trees and other objects.
