Re: Whats going on in Oregon Trials and Tests?

It would be fairly likely to pass. The gun lobbys don't care about hunters and the population is going more toward neutral on hunting. It is relatively easy for anti hunters to get the neutrals on their side. It would seem like it would be hard to pass in a state like Oregon. We give the anti hunte...

I think the biggest challenge we have is the fact that when I was a kid even if your Dad didn't hunt he found somebody at work he trusted and you tagged along. I think the biggest challenge is people tend to keep quiet about there hunting unless the know the are around other hunters.

Stole this idea from someone on this board i believe...throw treats into the grass and then bring them in the area. I they begin working scent and finding the treats tell them hunt dead. Just a couple of times and the will learn to get their nose to the ground.

My advice as someone who raised three hunters... if she goes with you at that age it is about her not the hunt. Just like with a pup when she gets tired you are done. Also, for my kids (youngest being a girl) at first it was just as much about doing the guy stuff. If you can find a buddy with a kid ...

Springer agree basically is Perfect Start (and I am sure others). When you notice they catch scent next movement launch. They will learn their movement causes the bird to fly and must stand still (point) for bird to stay.
