Re: Tipping guides
I get the whole tipping problem. Why it started, we'll never know. Don't see it stopping. I asked the question because I have never done a guided hunt. I have always hunted wild quail. I hunted a lot in the 80's, 90's, and early to mid 2000's. Took a break due to dog dying, job, growing kids, $$, et...

Re: New E-Collar... Dogtra Edge, Garmin 550 or Garmin Alpha
you can't go wrong with your choice. I personally have had no issues. I'm not getting the battery problem. It stays charged for what seems like forever, plus you get a car charger with the system. Also have had good customer service. Called them a couple of times. On hold at first for 15-20 mins, th...

Re: Black Kettle/Packsaddle Oklahoma
I've never been to Sandy Sanders. I saw a decent covey at Ft. supply a couple weeks ago. Are the goathead stickers bad at Sanders. They were horrible at the spot I was at Supply. Opening day at Black Kettle I only saw a double near the end of the day. Others found coveys.

Re: New E-Collar... Dogtra Edge, Garmin 550 or Garmin Alpha
I was going back & forth between the 550 with Astro or Alpha 100 + TT15 collar. I chose he Alpha and have been happy so far. My 1yr Brittany has already been trained with the 550 so he knows what's expected of him (heel, whoa, here). I haven't needed to use the ecollar much in the field. If I felt h...

Garmin Alpha help
When I finish a hunt. I save the current Tract for dog & myself, then turn off unit. When I plug Alpha into my computer, it connects (straight line) to my home. How can I record the hunt without recording the connection to my home. In other words. I just want to record my hunt. The unit works great ...

Re: Firearm deer season /Hunting with your dog ? NY ?
In Oklahoma, the public land that allows deer gun hunting, upland hunters are not allowed for the first nine days of that season. We are relegated to land that doesn't allow deer gun hunting. Fine with me. It doesn't last that long. Keeps us from interfering with each other and safer.

Re: Anyone here hunt in Oklahoma?
+1 The barbed wire fencing has green signs on them. And most private property have "no hunting" or "leased hunting" signs posted. They've dealt with this for years. The map is accurate. Most areas have a parking area and a sign with the number from the map making it obvious. Wear chaps or upland hun...

I got out around the panhandle area and western border. Had fair luck. Birds are hard to find and quick. Let us know how things are in that part of the state.

I have a 1 yr old Brittany. He was house trained. He has been in a kennel being trained the last 3 months. I bring him home and he is now marking in the house. Granted it has only been one evening. Is this something to use the collar on? I am going to watch him closely and catch him before and rush ...

Re: should I Hunt Test?
Thanks for all the replies and advice. He is steady with a ecollar. I have yet to run him without one. Maybe that doesn't qualify as truly being steady for testing purposes. I have been to a couple of tests as an observer through my breeder. She is wanting me to test him. I enjoyed it and would like...

should I Hunt Test?
I have a 1 yr old male Brittany. We are about to start the season. He is steady to wing, shot, and fall. He loves to hunt. I cannot get him to retrieve. Granted he has mainly been focusing on prey drive, holding point, obedience, etc. He's just been allowed to retrieve if he wants. In other words, w...

I was at a small seminar recently. The trainer trained English Pointers. He started off giving advice on choosing a puppy. He said they must be pretty. He said if they point... no dog is ugly, but nothing worse than an ugly dog that won't point. Made me laugh.

Re: feeding pork cause pancreasisis
I'm no vet. Just telling my experience. 7 yr old outdoor brittany that only ate dry dog food and dog treats. I'm grilling pork chops on grill. Cut off a small piece of pork fat after they were cooked and tossed it to my dog as a treat. About a day or two later, if I'm remembering without asking the ...

Astro vs Alpha
Are most upland hunters using the Alpha so everything is on one collar? Or do you prefer your GPS and ecollar separate? I like the tube style remotes. Is it too cumbersome to mess with a screen with gloves on? I'm getting back into bird hunting. Dog being trained. Looking into ecollars & GPS's. My i...

Garmin Asto DC50 vs T5
OK!! It is time to purchase my first GPS for my young Brit. I have narrowed it down to the Garmin Astro. Now, is it really worth the extra $100 for the new T5 collar? I have the Pro550 ecollar that has a light on it. I'm thinking go with the DC50 and get maps. I hunt only in western Oklahoma area. A...

Re: update on breeding plus a question
I'm no expert, but when I did my obsessive research for my Brittany pup, the magic window was 8 to 12 weeks. 8 weeks being the earliest and 12 weeks pushing it for potential social issues.
That being said, if you trust your vet, listen to him.

I am the least qualified to comment. I've never had more than one dog on a collar. My current collar is very old. My pup is at a trainer that uses the pro 550. I like all the features it offers. I may not use them though. Priced reasonable. I will most likely get one before the season. I will be rea...

My Brittany pup is "Chisholm Trails King of Diamonds" per his pedigree. Call name "Rex", which is Latin for king.
Felt like I spent more time/obsession on his name than my children's. probably not though.
