Re: Found wild quail ... now what?
FWIW, it's illegal in CA to run dogs on wild birds out of season. Until the season opens (we have 3 different quail openers in CA so read the regs) you're stuck with pen-raised birds and pigeons. Hunt (or run your dog) as much as you can after the season opens in your area. Its only "illegal" to hu...

Re: Ammo
As for Cali, the lead ban only effects a little part of the state and according to what Parks and Wildlife told me they have seen no effect on the environment. The governor signed a state-wide lead hunting ban last year to be fully implemented by 2019. It looks like there will be a push to start ba...

Go the freezer section of your nearest Raley's meat department and pick up a few packages of beef soup bones. Give your dog one every few days and you should be good to go.

I would suggest looking into shipping your pup with one of the major airlines. I had my GSP puppy shipped from TN to CA through ATL with Delta Cargo with no problems. I just shipped him back for training through Delta with no problems. I think pups have to be a minimum of 10 wks though, so your bree...

Re: Ammo
In CA almost all public areas are non-lead. This is NOT true. Well, at least not until 2019 when the state-wide lead hunting ammo ban goes into effect. The current state lead ban covers the condor area for big game and non-game (eg varmints) as well as federal refuges; it is permissible to use lead...

Dogs can behave in funny ways in new environments. So, is this the hearing on banning dogs for bear and bobcat in California and the generalized wording is creating the angst? Basically, yes. The dog has not earned the amount of freedom that you are giving it. If you haven't crate trained you ought to straight away. At this age it probably will be spending more time in the crate than out when inside the house. There's no secrets or tricks. Continue to get it as much exercise as you can, ...

Yup, those ballistics don't lie. High BC bullet going fast equals good drop/drift stats. My varmint hunting partner shoots a 22-250 and I a 204. I think the 204 is a little friendlier to shoot (less muzzle jump, quieter, reduced barrel heat during high volume shoots). I think the 204 burns about a t...

Check out http://www.6mmbr.com lots of good info there. I have a 204 and really like it, the ballistics are pretty awesome and it's a flat shootin' SOB. However, as was mentioned, its light bullets are not great in the wind. The 250 is a burner no doubt. It's really hard to beat the versatility, and...
