I've been moving my dogs into woodcock this week....we've never hunted woodcock. When they bump a bird I bark WHOA ! and fire the blank gun....doesn't take many to get the point (pun intended).

And I've had my dogs hunted by yotes in ND and NE.as well as had two yotes circling a dozen pointers on stakeouts at night. The ranchers I stay with had one trying to break in the whelping shed with two litters and their mothers inside. Its not common but they are opportunistic if the chance arises....

PGC LOL....it happens when and if they get a chance which doesn't happen very often. The effectiveness of coyote hunting with decoy dogs proves that given the chance they will kill dogs. The fact that yotes do their best to not put themselves in a loosing situation as all wild predators do, prevents...

At 6 .months I let em do a little bump and chase.... Stress on little....real training starting soon after, depending on the dog of course....prior to that I've got them coming when called and have them crazy for retrieving bumpers from land and water. Other than that I'm just happy timing on walks ...

All my dogs were taught to respect my bird pens (2000 chukar, 100 phez and 200 quail) and my free range chickens (25 at times) without issue....consistency and patience......that said don't turn your back until its firmly engrained.

I've taken care of a mess of dogs in and out of crowded kennels and never seen anything like that. I too would follow the vets advice. I might also call around and email pictures to some university vet hospitals.

The ranch I lease in Nebraska had a pack of 11 causing all kinds of mischief. Ranchers said they don't normally shoot yotes unless there's a trouble maker....but said they had to deal with that pack around their cows and homestead.

Snow especially crusty snow will tear up any dogs feet...I too use Epsom salt. I also use cut heal ( from tractor supply) on slipped or raw pads and edges of pads. As well as bag balm on dry cracked pads.

I will have to wait and see....the bark collar seems gimicy....but being a pro model maybe there's a pro that would be worried about that. I'm gonna snap up another G3 transmitter and a couple collars...that oughta last the rest of my life.

A pointer in that situation would likely end up a broken bloody mess.

Cadaver dogs smell body gasses and that takes some time and I can only guess that maybe that mud is so tight scent has trouble escaping.

Gary is a good guy, I bought a Damascus grandson from him years ago....dog was a bit of a hard head but Damascus was known for that....took awhile to get him right....he is now hunting grouse in Maine and his owners love him as the send me emails from time to time.
