Re: Chessie People?
I've seen 5 pups at different stages from 4 different breedings in the last 3 months and they too are all soft dogs, only one of which i would even consider owning. Would be interesting to know who the breeder/owners of these pups are...know most of the CBR folks in MD. Maybe you can then explain a...

Re: Chessie People?
Actually many chessies i see now are very soft dogs, much more so then 15-20 yrs ago, a knee jerk reaction by breeders? Soft or more socialized? 15-20 yrs a CBR owner only had books to read and most of them never stressed the important issue of socialization but the 2x4 mentality. JMO, the Internet...

Re: Want to switch dog food & would like advice on what & how
He is a lean mean 87lbs. I've fed as much as 6 cups during the summer workout - spooling up to and during hunting season and have dropped him back slowly to 4 this winter. He still gets out 3 times a day with varying degrees of intensity, but mostly not real intense. He seems to be maintaining his ...

How much does your CBR weigh? How many cups of PPP do you feed daily to maintain his/her weight?yukonjasper wrote:I consistantly leave there questioning what I am feeding my 2.5 year old Chessy.

Re: Pre registered by breeder...
... but I do feel that I look for a breeder that has pride in their puppies, puts LOTS into raising them, and cares for them. Has done the health testing, has chosen and bred carefully and mindfully, that has proven their own dogs, and chosen proven stud dogs. That is willing to take the puppy back...

Re: Any Retriever Owners Here?
I owned & trained Labs long before I started raising pointers... Upland hunting was only something we did on "Bluebird" days when it was too nice to H2Ofowl hunt. The only time our dogs see H20fowl is when were training or at a HT  Decided to keep this little gal out of my last litter. She is...

Re: Panosteitis - Growing Pains
It's not uncommon for CBR pups to come down with Pano. The majority of pups that do are usually on a large breed puppy formula. This is why experienced CBR breeders recommond feeding a "quality" adult food with a lower protein/fat ratio.

Re: Breeding: Pedigree, dog or both?
When you look to dogs for breeding, what do you concentrate on, the pedigree, the dog or both? Why? Pedigree's are a wealth of information especially when you become more knowledgeable with your breed of choice. Pedigree's are also a great reference for not only health clearances but, knowing what ...

Re: Why THAT feed?
I wound up really liking Blue Buffalo and Taste of The Wild, but usually go with Taste of The Wild. How about you guys? Ditto on Taste of the Wild but during the winter months I feed raw. My crew does better on foods that have meat as the main protein source rather then grains. Another benefit is t...

Re: Puppy has PARVOVIRUS HELP!!
14 week old springer spaniel has Provo! Anyone has any experience with this? I had a litter of seven, seven week old pups come own with Parvo so, I have a little experience. I had several that only spent one day hospitalized, a couple that spent several days at the vet and one who we ended up doing...

Re: Blue weimaraners
If DQ means disqualification? Then the breed club decides what that is...for example if the American Brittany Club wants the height standard at the shoulder to be a limit of 81" the AKC doesn't give a rat's hind end...they change the standard...at least that is what the AKC reps told me... DQ = dis...

Re: Most Sensative Dog
Personally, I would put the CBR at the very bottom of the retriever spectrum <G>ezzy333 wrote:On the other end of the spectrum many of the retrievers topped by the Chessie tend to be much less sensitive. I think we more often refer to it as biddable, soft, and a couple of others.
