IMO a good bird finder will do well in both trial and hunting ! Decipline makes the dogs excel in trials. Going to trials will give you a good idea what is out there. Better for someone wanting a dog to go to some trials on a variety of breeds, that will help you decide on what you like. Now I am g...

Let's see. Shorthairs tend to orver run game, chew downed bird, and generally have noses that mislead. Britts tend to find game at any range, have soft mouths, and know the difference between "bleep" and game birds. You can also keep them in the house. As for the "little groundhog, crack, even my s...

Re: pup barking wile tied up waiting to train
Try tying the pup up on the other side of the truck from where you are training. If the pups can't see you, it will relax a bit sooner. If it sees you, it will want to be where you are. I would also move from a leash to a stake out chain which will give a bit of stimulation to the pup and help to ca...

I've been doing my dogs for years with no ill effects. You can get the same vaccines that your vet gets. Make sure that you get one that is geared for the age your pup is.
I'll be doing a litter today with Solo-Jec 5 in 1. You should be fine with the Spectra 7.

If you want the pups to hunt close, try letting them go (you decide the distance, then call them back and treat them. A few session like this and you will find the dogs will hunt close. I should mention that this should be done when they are still pups.

I really don't see much use for a chain with only one pup. The stimulation that they get on a chain come from the movement from other dogs. I also don't put mine on a stakeout chain until I start their training, informally with my other dogs.
