Carolina’s Pointing Dog Association Walking FT Nov 9-10
The CPDA has been formed to bring AKC field trials back to SC. A small group of us have been working for the past year and a half to get this new club started and we will be holding our first club field trial on Nov 9-10. My horses were pasture boarded for the past year and half. There were 3 geldings and a mare. They were all fine. They sort it out the first few days and someone is in charge. Usually it will be the mare, but my gelding was not willing to give up the top spot. The age when the two you have were gelde...

I think of it as reverse training. You're teaching the dog to stand birds (by making him stand Whoa while you throw them), then letting him point. Not letting him point, then working on holding point. There's a lot leading up to this, of course. This isn't the dog's first interaction with birds. Le...

Puppy and derby is a good chance for you and your dog to get experience just don't ruin that opportunity chasing ribbons. I put a limit on how many juvy stakes I will run. I'm never going to run any stake to chase any kind of pts or DOY award. Just not how or why I play the game. You can buy a starter pistol at most sporting goods stotes pretty cheap. I bought one at Bass Pro that shoots a primer load or crimps for around 50 bucks. Training dogs is a whole lot more like sales than manufacturing. You need to learn how to read your dog like a salesman reads people. None of the rest of that stuff matters. If you can't read your dog then all the charts and books in the world aren't going to help you.
