I have never heard that taste had anything to do with the retrieve but rather that their feathers are quite loose and the dog gets a mouth full of feathers. I know that is what happened anytime we have shot them. The dogs have always pointed them and normally retrieve them also but always end up wi...

Sounds right. But you don't know if you've got that part of the deal right till you see voltage between them when the PTT is pressed on the walkie-talkie that's acting as the transmitter.Ayres wrote:<snip> I would assume, then, that the red and copper wires together would be the earphones.

Another problem you might be having is using the wrong "plug". You need to get a cheap multi-meter, set it on voltage at the appropriate scale, and verify that you're seeing voltage across two of the wires when you trigger the "push to talk" on the other radio. You'll check pairings with the ground ...

The trigger won't do its thing on the actuator side if it doesn't receive 1.5 volts on the trigger (from the radio speaker) side. Do you have a multi-meter? You can use it to show if you have voltage on from the speaker plug when the transmit key is pressed on the other radio. You can also use it to...

Is there a way to ship birds? I notice that Dixon is about three hours away (six-hour round trip) from me. I'd like birds, but I don't know that I could devote an entire day to getting them, what with school and all. Also, if you can't tell a pigeon racer that you want the birds for dog training, t...

If I could somehow keep a small coop, I could probably get by with about six homers. Six birds per day should be enough for one dog, right? I have homers. It's a great solution for me. One thing that you might want to think about, though. You probably won't want to raise many and so won't want to shoot them. You'll need feral pigeons, quail, chukars, etc. for that. It wouldn't be much burden for you to have a few homers plus a trap and ...

The birds escape by scruching up the fabric till they can get outside it either on the front or the back, then they get out between the side of the "cage" and frame of the "trampoline" that is, when cocked, down the middle of the cage. On pen quail, I think 7-1/2's are overkill. Using a modified or tighter choke would definitely handicap you. I use 20 ga or 28 ga skeet loads and skeet chokes when I gun at hunt tests. I don't like to tear the birds up. I haven't failed to bring one down yet. In your gun, I'd shoot 1 oz of 9 skeet l...

I'm not familiar with the beeper collar. Doesn't the dog get scared of a beep that you should be able to hear from far away to find the dog? Isn't that what it's for? Greg, I'm not quite sure what you mean about the material and birds being able to get out. If a bird were able to wiggle out of the cloth trampoline, it still would be caged by the releaser. Re: New Equipment!
You don't need the relay. You can just wire directly to the low-voltage trigger. I posted a wiring diagram from the LVT manufacturer on uplandbirddog.com .Ayres wrote: I'm missing a couple parts, still, that I need to order online.

I think free-running on wild birds is great for a dog that hasn't started establishing a solid point yet.
