Re: Has anyone turned forest into pasture?

I can assure you that you do not have to be a "careless" person to foul up using a tractor..there is a learning curve. You can get into trouble quick...believe that!!

Re: Has anyone turned forest into pasture?

I bought an orange one when we bought our place. 800' driveway..either pave it or buy blue stone & a tractor to care for it. I wanted a tractor bad : ) Now I have the tractor and want my darn driveway paved : | I Remember thinking about that 18/20" beech stump that I had been working on for quite so...

Re: Jeep Wranglers and Hunting?????

Wife has a new 4-door Sahara...she loves it..I hate it. Don't kid yourself thinking the 4-door is spacious...it is not...the ride sucks...I'm old and like a nice ride etc..thought we should have gotten an Edge or better yet a Yukon but nooooo Would HATE having it as only vehicle for dog games/huntin...

Re: Do You Know Your Shotgun Fit Dimensions?

Got the Parker...what a sweetheart of a gun!!! SG, 2 triggers the way God intended, 5.5# exactly & I happen to like shorter barrels than most as I like "quick" guns...cc is rather worn but mechanically its easily 99%. Boy those cc's must wear quick because this gun only shows evidence of the right b...

Re: Has anyone turned forest into pasture?

Nice tractor..it is definately going to come in handy with that land and its future management. It is also going to be a big help cleaning up during the course of your project. I sure hope you don't plan on knocking down trees or pulling stumps w/it though. You need tracks for that..go ahead..ask me...

Re: Do You Know Your Shotgun Fit Dimensions?

Having a gun fit is just a pleasure and one that inspires the all important confidence. Hadn't put much thought into it having several guns that are "close" until I came across a s-gun that really actually fit me pretty darn good right out of the box..the shot afield happens so fast there is not an ...

Re: Heat Stroke

Wow...knew heat stroke was bad but did not realize it could have residual and life-long effects..scary!! This brings up a question...my pup who is now nearing 16 mos. (GSP of course : ) runs hard in the field but will take breaks if it's just a casual hunt or the excitement's low. When another dog i...

Re: Question about FF

Where you are at w/ your pup is the EXACT same place I am at with mine and my GSP pup is 1 yr as well. I believe the overwhelming response you will get by those experienced is yes, by all means it is time to FF. I have not started formally but have a bench built and the program selected w/reference ...

Re: E-collar

Thanks for the replies guys and also thank you very much for taking the time to photograph. I had the DT Border Patrol for a very short time hoping that would be the ticket around the house but unfortunately it was not. My attraction to that setup was the "fence" which is a concept wonderful but a p...

E-collar + mini Garmin Alpha review

I am considering an e-collar for around the house. I very much like the features of the DT 2400 series. To those that have or have seen both, can you please share how the size of the collar electronics compare to the Garmin Alpha collar I have the Alpha which is fantastic but the collar electronics ...

Re: FF

I have a very bold and Independant dog. And he is so enthusiastic when he knows he is pleasing. I mean this pup comes running when I call him in and hops 3 ft in the air at his approach landing right at my feet with eagerness and enthusiasm to hunt. I've put him in a couple of JH tests which confuse...

Re: FF

I can appreciate that..but why? As I said, if he is not pressured or I don't try to "train" him...why? I really don't want to take anything out of him because he is very enthusiastic about the whole deal...except fetch. Because even if you think your not training by "playing" fetch with him you rea...

Re: FF

I think keeping the dog mentally in the game with FF is the way to go. It's like the army 'breaking you down to build you up' process - you need to be fully in the game. I didn't do anything with the dogs during FF except for FF. I wanted them "in the game." There's a lot to be said with that appro...

Re: FF

As long as you're not trying to uphold a standard that the dog doesn't know you should be fine. I went much slower with my FF process, I started to hold training before hunting season and am just now extending my pile work. If you're doing bird work and shoot one, don't tell the dog to fetch until ...

FF

So I have been trying to bring out what natural retrieve I have in my pup and have failed. Was looking promising at one point but he now will just run to the downed bird and look at it like, "ok..it's dead", lets move on and find another". He is 1 yr and I am going to FF him using the SmartFetch pro...

Re: Come/check cord

I think the pup is ready for the ecollar. Make sure he's worn it with no stim being used for a month or two and it should go smoothly. I like to use low level continuous stimulation to set the standard that the pup turns off the stim by obeying the command. So for recall, I'd start in your backyard...

Re: Come/check cord

Consistency and do your best to make the pup WANT to come to you. Read your dog and at this stage make sure you never "dupe" your pup. What I mean is don't get all excited and seduce pup into recalling enthusiastically just to capture them or otherwise make them do what they don't really want to do ...

Re: Creepy

This is just my opinion but you have way too high expectations for this puppy. You train on the dogs schedule not yours. If you don't have much experience trainig I would suggest you get on a proven sequential program. Appreciate the feedback but u are painting with broad strokes...this dog has all...

Creepy

Hello and thank you for the forum. I have read through many of the posts and topics here which have been not only informative but enjoyable as well. I am on my fifth GSP who is now 9.5 mos. old and an only child at the moment. Although a first post, I suppose I might as well just dive right in. Have...
