Re: When to check fo Hip Dysplasia?
A dog has to be 2 yrs old before you can submit hip films to OFA. Although any vet can do your radiographs, you should find someone experienced in this area as positioning the dog correctly is important. OFA grades the hips, not your Vet. Once you have the films done, you send them to OFA along with...

Shockwave therapy helped tremendously with scar tissue build up after my dog's surgery. The stiffness is due to a greater than desired amount of scar tissue (fibrosis) on the muscle.

Ruth..deal with this now while it is easy. My old dog eats first, gets a treat first etc. If Max challenges her, I step in and let him know who is boss. If he goes after her, which has happened 2 times in two years, he gets hung up by his collar and yelled at. Not a happy boy so we do not have this ...

Fractures usually heal well provided the surgery was done correctly. I would think your vet would have given you some kind of rehab schedule or at least guidelines for what you should expect. I had a GSD with EPI in the 90's. He was very hard to keep weight on. Once he was diagnosed, I put him on Science Diet ID and Viokase. He did well on that until he was 13 and he was diagnosed at 2. Viokase is darn expensive. I cannot remember who was telling me recently, but they have a GSD with EPI...

I'll ask the same here:
Ezzy: How does it make sense to feed a GSP 6+ cups/day? Why wouldn't you try less of a more calorie dense feed? It can't be a cost issue because you would be feeding much more of the "cheaper" food.
Just curious what your rationale is.

For the general populations' dogs that are primarily house dogs and are leash walked, there is no reason to vaccinate for Lepto, Lymes, etc. I only give my grandparent's 16 yr old dog Rabies and take complete responsibility if something were to happen, which is very unlikely. Oh heck my dogs are 11 and 14. I plan on $1000 every other year. I'd be THRILLED with a $500 dental bill. You pay $1000 for a cleaning? Even in the pricey Northeast that is unbelievable. Maybe a cleaning with about 8-10 extractions but a routine cleaning should be under $500. Try raw knuckle bones....

Would wetting the dog food prior to adding the fiber be adequate? I pulled those fiber sources off a website. I assume the amount of water you add would depend on the fiber source.
