Re: New 8 wk old puppy whinning all night
I'm in the same boat as you. We picked up our GSP puppy last Saturday. She's done very well. No accidents inside yet. The crying has got better everyday. She sleeps in a wire crate next to my 3yo GSP. Last night was the first night with no crying. Now if I could just get her to quit biting my feet ...

Re: Weak flying birds
Build a call back pen. I'm told it works wonders for getting harder flying birds but I have no personal experience.

Re: The ever popular question...Which Breed?
I got a wirehair puppy in a 750 sf apartment. In some ways it was easier because I didn't have as much to corral the dog out of. It was fine. My dog is very relaxed in the house. You are used to the energy level. If you get a puppy, it will get raised socialized to the small dog and not try and make...

Re: Puppy Buyers
A friend of mine who hunts, is looking for a DD pup. When I tell him about upcoming litters, all he cares to look at is pics of the parents. Basically, he wants the Draht beard and that's it. Makes no sense to me. Presumably, the VDD breeding program takes care of most of his concerns about hunting...

Re: Puppy Buyers
Playing Devils advocate...When I went to see the breeder for my dog, I wanted to meet the parents, which I did. I had already talked to parents of previous litters. I had met one of them out and about. I didn't get to see them hunt but the owner was enthusiastic about them and had run his dog in NA ...

Re: Pet Insurance
At 500 a year 250 deductible and 80%. I guess it wouldn't have come even close to paying off in the last 40 years. But that last $2000 and still running bill had me thinking about it. I don't mean to be pedantic, but no insurance is supposed to come close to paying off...Its a for profit product. I...

Re: Enlarged prostate?
Since he's fully grown, we're not opposed to neutering him if there is a reason to do it, but we don't want to do it just because the vet likes to neuter dogs. No point in going into a rant -- I'm sure others have here in the past --, but many vets push this stuff because they honestly believe the ...
