Re: Multiple Trainers
My dog has been at the second trainer’s place for a couple of weeks and that was what he told me initially. Not what I would like to hear but it’s what I expected. We had fun the 2 weeks he was home in between. Went out with the local dog club once a week to do bird work. Did lots of running the fie...

I think it’s gonna be pretty slick. I still have to put in the rest of the fence out back and a shade awning. As well as the dog door of course.

Is that from the floor to the bottom of the dog door? That’s the measurement I’m trying to figure out. Thanks so much for the response!Sharon wrote:The open part of my dog door is 17 inches high- used by some medium - sized dogs.

Dog Door Height
Directions say to measure from the ground to dog belly and this will determine height to place the dog, should be between 6”-12” high. I have a male Brittany or average size. He’s a little less than a year but should be between 40-50 pounds. He’s at the trainer so I asked the breeder to measure mom’...

Re: Cant get out of my own way
I was at the trainers yesterday picking up my dog. Wanted to see what the e collar feels like so took it off of my dog and held it to my neck. Had the trainer shock the collar. Couldn’t feel anything and he kept working the intensity up until we got to like 4 or 5 before realizing he was hitting the...

Best of all I booked a week in September chasing sharpies and Huns at a lodge in SD and a week in MN in October for grouse and woodcock. Really look forward to watching the guides handle their dogs!

Re: Dog Being a Baby
I would suggest that whenever possible you work with the trainer and your dog. Dogs can often work great with the trainer, and then when they come home they aren't used to working with the owner. Yeah, that’s a great point. I probably need as much training as the dog does. I spent most of the day w...

You don’t want to let perfect be the enemy of good. The options aren’t me training the dog myself at exactly the right pace and bonding or the trainer. It’s dog staying at home and chewing on a table leg getting walked a couple of times a day or the trainer. I don’t know about dude’s finances or how...

Re: Dog Being a Baby
I would love to do it myself but my work schedule doesn’t allow it. I am away from home 2/3 of the time. That seems to imply that the trainer wouldn’t know what he was doing. I’m new at this and even I know that puppies should be trained for short amounts of time and it should be kept fun and pretty...

Re: Dog Being a Baby
At five months, I'd have never put that pup with a professional trainer. Pup is a baby yet. Pro's are not geared to training puppies and it's a terrible waste of your money. I just totally disagree but I understand there’s sort of an old Gaurd vs. next generation divergence on the issue. I know ol’...

Excellent point FeatherFinder about needing to think through how to change the conditions that caused the behavior in the first place. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Trainer said my dog is doing really well with bird work, enthusiastic, starting to hold points a little bit, finding birds. However, he is being a big baby about other stuff. All the snow in our back yard melted recently so the only thing I can think of is there was a cigarette butt or roach in the snow that was on the ground after it melted and he found it. Your little guy is nice and square of body which is something folks look for in a Brittany. That was something my BIL was very concerned with and he was a pretty serious Brittany breeder at one time. The more I read and learn, books but especially stuff on here, the more considerations there are when picking dogs that I wasn’t aware of. How important is a 12 o’clock tail set?
