Re: Cortunix Quail for training?

A friend of mine raised Corturnix last year and they would not fly. We planted them in a field as to create a mock NA test situation. When we flushed them it was comical. The darn things had to be picked up and thrown and even then they flew about 30 feet and landed. Pigeons in traps worked great.

Re: Newbie- seeking advice......

Thanks! I am an obedience junkie so Max knows how to heel very very well. I am working on "whoa" and since he knows "wait"/"stay", I think this will come easily. On walks/runs in the field he points. I think he just gets too excited when birds are around. I will work more on his "whoa" in the coming...

Newbie- seeking advice......

HI all: Let me give you a summary of my dog and what we have done. I bought my GSP, Max, in the Fall of 2008. I have trained dogs before but only in obedience. I actually never thought about doing bird work until a friend and NAVHDA member/judge encouraged me to do so. Unfortunately, in January, Max...

Re: Hello!

Thanks Chip! He is a nice little dog. Had a big set back last year. He had knee surgery in March and was out of commission for 5 months. Run his NA with only 4 times in the field. He did OK, 4's in most everything except Pointing- he got a 1! He was way too wild that day. Found every darn bird but n...

Hello!

Hi all: I am a new member to GDF. I have a 20m old GSP, Max. I live in Upstate NY. Max is my first sporting dog. I have always done obedience work but never bird work. I joined NAVHDA last year and am hooked. Fun dog, fun people. Anyways, just saying hello!

Re: Suspected partial tear

My 11 Yr old 80# hound Cross tore her CCL when she was 9 yrs. It was at first a partial tear but progressed into a full tear. My opinion- If you want your dog to live a life in the house with no hard exercise- do nothing. If not....consider surgery. I did a TPLO on her and it was the absolute best d...
