Well they are doing just fine right across the boarder in the Southern Tier I would doubt seriously that the birds know where the state line is.
They out there burn some shoe leather and the leaves are a still on...........dont give up.

Best hunting is still down here in Louisiana when it gets cold and if you want we can go chase woodcock I live near Lafayette. I might have to take you up on that. Never even seen a woodcock before. Been looking for something more upland to try since I got my GSP. Might could trade you a marsh duck...

I know grouse are really fun to hunt but.......

Don't forget WOODCOCK. I believe you have a pretty long season on them.

Central Virginia WMA's, and Cumberland State Forest are loaded with woodcock from reports of hunters in the area.

Ran Indy my hunting dog in a Nstra trial. She got second in an eighteen dog trail and got her 1st championship point to boot. She is a nice dog I rate her a 7.8 on a scale of 10. Yea, thats part of hog hunting, I put kevlar vests on the dogs that try to catch to prevent. Any dog cur, brddog, hound, and even bulldogs are gonna get tore up fooling with hogs. Then it seems obvious that the answer is respect your dogs and don't let them fool with pigs. Sounds very much like dog...

Steady through Fall is simply a more controlled environment for all involved dogs and gunners. Safer in my humble opinion.
In addition were birds covey up you will get more oppurtunities with a completely broke dog that doesn't bust up additional birds like a dog that breaks on flush or shot.

If you use the breeders MSR in the front, you and the world will know that it came from Messers Kennels in Houston Texas. If u trial the pup all can follow the pup as it become more famous. Follow them they we sooner are later show you there pattern and that old tom's strut zone. What for them there sometimes it best to hunt turkeys just like deer ambush em.

You can try to call the dominate hen in but many times the gobbler hangs back out of gun range.
