Re: Shelter Dogs

Welcome to the forum. Just from my experience: Some people get shelter dogs and they turn out great! :) I adopted two shelter dogs (years ago), and both were a disaster. For both I was told that they would make "good pets". One was a fear biter (GSP) who would lash out at anyone who got too close .I...

If I want to run my dogs consistently I have to run them in both Horseback and NBHA or we would be sitting home way too often. We have only had a few weekend trials this year ...and only one weekend of NBHA trials. It's getting harder and harder to stay active.... I have had to go so far as to run ...

Some of the best handlers, trainers in the country insist on having their dogs in the home. Many (most?) of the folks on this forum keep their gun dogs in the house. Several times you said, "We waited...." You never mentioned the vet - just home remedies and the pet store. Maybe it was just a slip. If not forget the home remedies and see the vet,

I would hesitate to use the e-collar. Dog might not know that it's for moving out too far. He might think it means you don't want him to track. Sounds like the tracking harness is the way to go. Enjoy.

With all due respect I find your post confusing. i could not be reading it correctly.
Apart from the breeding scenario, how could a big running pointer, hunting out there 1/4 to 1/2 a mile , compete in NASTRA? His breeding is to run big.

I guess there are different definitions of broke. NSTRA dogs are broke to flush, and force broke to retrieve. Those who say our dogs are "broke" probably need to be more specific. Broke is like being pregnant; either you are or you ain't. I love that!! So many people say, "Well, he's almost broke."...
