Can you see it?
Can you see the EP in other breeds? Sometimes when I look at GSP's and Brittany's I see caracteristics of an EP. Did early shorthairs have white in there coloring? Is that bowlegged look you see in some shorthairs coming from an EP? Also I have seen a shorthair that has allot of white that seems to ...

Georgia Boy.... You gotta tell me more about this! Terrier? Sounds like something you hear about watching a dog show or something... Not actually done. It sounds awesome! I like that pic with the caught fox. I thought my dog could have caught that fox if he wanted to. Btw I've got lots of property i...

Re: Rabbits... Why not?
How do you guys use them for the foxes? Do they just run them to you? My GSP loves to chase foxes! One night around my home we were walking and he got on the trail of one. He was running around like crazy and them I saw him in the street lights chasing what I thought was a cat. As them came running ...

What is it about them over other breeds? They seem to be rising in popularity around here.cohanzick creek wrote:My choice would be german wirehaired pointers. I have had just about every kind of bird dogs but i bought my first wire in 1987 and been hooked ever since.

Re: Rabbits... Why not?
I hunt wild quail here in FL if I were to encourage pointing rabbits this would definitely increase our options. The quail are somewhat hard to come by

Rabbits... Why not?
Ok does anyone out there want their dog to point rabbits? To me this could be pretty desirable. Now don't get me wrong I don't want my dog to be looking for rabbits only and passing up bird scent but can they actively search for both without favoring the fur.

Re: NSTRA dog
So I ran my shorthair in his first (and mine) NSTRA puppy trial. I really enjoyed it. He pointed two birds and busted one that was running. I am looking forward to the real season. He isn't retrieving all that well so I guess I am going to force fetch him. So I guess what I am realizing is that most...

Re: German Shorthairs
Mine is very intelligent and does well in the house. I will say he is not very playful with children. He seems a little wary with kids now don,t get me wrong he hasn't tried to bite or anything. Over all a great breed.

Dogtra bird launcher frequency
I am looking into buying a second launcher used. The launcher is a 1 like the one I currently own. Can I change the frequency to make it a 2?

I had the same thing happen with my dachshund after getting shots. Luckily we were a couple miles from the vet when we realized it. We turned around called the vet on our way and the had a benadryl shot ready for him. It was definitely the vaccination.

Re: New member....New GSP
Welcome! I am on my first bird dog also a GSP. My dog is currently with a trainer and this is one thing that wish I would have done earlier. He is now 3 yrs old and I didn't want to send him away for a month or more until this year when I finally realized this is what I had to do to get him past whe...

Re: NSTRA dog
Thanks romeo! That is what I suspected. So Pointers have dominated the big running trials but when you shorten the area that needs to be covered it evens the playing field. Is that correct?

Re: Wild Justice
That show annoys the crap out of me! I watched last year and every "hunter" they found had marijuana on them. Now I really don't care if you use drugs but you should not encroach on the rights of other people and carrying guns and being impaired by any drug legal or otherwise would definitely put ot...

Re: NSTRA dog
So would it be fair to say that of a well bred litter that most of the pups would have what it takes to compete or would you need to look for that special dog?

NSTRA dog
Ok this is a very GENERAL question. How often does a dog of a certain breed have what it takes to be successful in NSTRA? Does this vary from breed to breed? Assuming the dog has been trained. Also assuming all dogs are from field lines. (I know that a great dog of any pointing breed can win) could ...

Re: What gun dog breed do you currently own and why?
This is my first bird dog a GSP. So far he has been the best dog I have ever owned (previously beagles.... Love em daschund.... love them too) I needed a versatile breed since I also hunt ducks and deer. He is very intelligent and loving. Right now he is off with a trainer hopefully he will think he...
