Re: New Pup/Introducing Rabbits

My last Brittany would point a cotton tail then gently pick it up and look at me. When I tell her no fir, she would set it down and watch it run away. She came to me as a rescue and had spent some time with a Beagle trainer. Have no idea how she learned this trick but she was very intelligent. My fi...

Re: ever had hunting success with a rescue?

I was looking in American Brittany Rescue for a new dog. Found a dog in Washington that the owner died. His wife thought the dog was trained and did have a pedigree. She was fully trained, 4 yrs old, under nourished and the best all around dog ever. Great nose and style. When she died at 10, I start...

Re: Totally Lost...

I have an old book called, Title, Best way to train your gun dog, the Delmar Smith Method, author Bill Tarrant I found a lot of leash training that really worked. I had my pup whoaing on planted birds to the point where I would walk out in front of the pup and flush the bird while she was dragging a...

Re: Ammo

I am from California and have bought a hunting license every year since 1954. I have bought my last! I will drive a little further to Nevada from now on. Steel just does not have the killing power of lead and I am not going to wound birds so they can become vulture food.

Re: Wild Quail Hunts

In the desert of California, the quail did pair up this year. Last year they didn't nest at all. My normal covey of 100 was down to 6 this spring. Food is scarce and weather is dry, dry, dry! I am supplemental feeding milo and wheat and carrying water to guzzlers, trying to keep this covey viable.

Re: Hunting the Dakotas w/a pointing dog

I went to south Dakota with a bunch of guys that didn't know my dog. The were driving corn rows. I said I would walk way out on the wing ( outer edge of the line) I was in thick CRP. Had my three birds pointed and shot before we were half way down the corn row patch. Hunted one day out on the grass ...

Re: testing a dogs nose

Was he trained to point as soon as he gets scent? Or has he been allowed to creep in and then point? My current pup scents at about 30ft and points. I am used to dogs that are on top of the bird when they point. With this dog it is somewhat of a hunt for the bird after she points but she never bumps...

Re: Newbie to gun dogs and I have some questions

Consider America Brittany. They are extremely hi energy outside but when they come into the house, they flop down like a lap dog. I had big GSP for 15 years and Britts for the last 18. Two different Britts lived with the wife and I in a 5th wheel for 2 years as we toured the US, Canada and Alaska tw...

Re: Meat & Bonemeal ---- YUK ! ! !

In 1959 my dad had a haul to move half rendered cow guts from the Brawly CA to California rendering in Los Angeles. We hauled 50 tons a day in open top dump trucks. I did see a load of dogs being dumped into the grinder but it was such a small percentage of the entire mass, it was not significant. T...

Re: Bird launchers

Recently bought 2 Dogtra launchers from a pro trainer. Quite used. Still work great with new batteries. Had one receiver fail and sent it to dogtra. They received it on Monday and I had it back by UPS on Thursday. Great service. The trainer sold the Dogtra's because he couldn't remember to recharge ...

Ever eat a big Arkansas red strawberry ? Good huh! Original pure strawberries were about the size of a little finger nail. ALL big strawberries are GMO. You have been eating GMO for years and didn't even know it.

Re: Costco brand dog food

I am a big Costco fan but. The food is rated 4 with the top being 5 by dog food advisors. that is good and price is great. But my vet warns about Diamond that uses meat products from China. My last Brittany got sick on it and just would not eat anymore of that bag. I just can't bring myself to buy i...
