I am out on labs because I want a pointing dog, I like setters but dont like pulling burrs out of their hair after hunting, I also dont want to have to shave my dog. So I run shorthairs, and couldnt be happier. Like was said before shorthairs probably arent the best for big water or real cold water,...

Crossed up
Cross breeding has been done and will be done forever. You are just as likely to get a really good dog from this breeding as you are a bad one. The fact is unless one of the parents is super prepotent, there will be very little uniformity in looks, style, and temperament, even more so since you said...

papers
Health is the most important factor in my opinion, no matter how mush ability a dog has if it has health problems it should never be bred; hips, eys, elbows, thyroid, and to many other to list. Those are not factors that can be over looked. Dont get me wrong I believe that title are great, I have a ...

papers
Even with titled dogs its the dogs that made the papers great not vice versa. I agree that you should breed out of proven dogs, the lack of a title does not always mean that a dog is not a proven dog, that is up to the owner to really evaluate if the dog is worthy of breeding. The best Pointer/GSP/B...

This is the kind of crap that gives all hunters a bad name, it was now determined that the hog was not really feral but was farm raised and fed. I knew as soon as a I saw it that it was more to the story than what was being said. Life on a feral hog is way to tough for them to reach that kind of wei...

I bet that would make a good cross, but I dont know many hog hunters paying $500 for a dog it does happen but most wont give that much for one.

Birds
If you dont mind a drive I know where you could find several birds real cheap. 1.00-2.00 Dollar range, just enough for a little feed. My father has a bunch and would sell 10-15 birds, mostly homers some homer x roller crosses. He is located in Ponca City, that is the north central part of the state....

I was hunting private land in north central, its actually a guy who does day leases and it only costs 30 bucks to book he gives you a map and you have at it. Thanks
Thanks Greg for posting the parts important to me.
I am going to try to get him to the vet on wedesday to see if the old fella can still get it done. If he can I am going to try live cover and also look into getting him collected.
Any more thoughts would be appreciated.

I currently own both, pick a quality litter and either sex should make good dogs. There aren't any cut and dried rules about males and females, as far as hunting style, personality or ease of training.

Birds
Depending on the age of the birds when you got them they may or may not return to your coop. It doesnt always matter if they have been flown out of the their original coop or not, an older bird that hasnt been flown if moved will still attempt to return to its "HOME". It sounds like maybe the birds ...
