Best trip out this year was with a buddy who had picked up an old damascus shotgun. I think he said it was made in England in 1869. He loaded some black powder cartridges for it, we tested it at the range on some clays and then headed out for birds.

Merry Christmas Sharon. Here in Alberta we've been on lockdown for a few weeks already - not that I have noticed much change in my daily routine from it.

Sounds like some good days ahead for the dogs.

2 dogs working independently are always more effective than one. The increase in effectiveness isn’t worth using up all your dog power. Anyone that would lose a friend over a piece of dog work needs to unwind their spring a little - well maybe a lot.

There is not a dog in existence that will find every bird that exists on his/her beat everytime. So the supposition that having a second dog working the same beat on a slightly different angle and path is redundant is a fallacy.

I've seen dogs default to sit when pressure is applied during training. Not what you want in a pointing dog. Beginners can easily overemphasized the sit command. Puppy food does have a different nutritional profile that is geared towards the developing structure of the dog. But, IMO ProPlan 30/20 or any of its equivalents would probably be better than the cheap grade puppy foods.

The rate for mammary cancers in dogs is about 8%. So roughly 1 in 12 female dogs develop mammary cancers. Of those, 1 in 4 will be bitches spayed after the second heat cycle.

Spay before the first heat cycle is the biggest reduction of chances of mammary cancer. It is also the highest risk of complications. That is definitely a fault in the breed standard. Dog can be shown and may even win depending on its other traits. Most breeders would not breed it.

If it were hybrid vigor producing the size then you would see the same in all the littermates.
