You physically go to the breeder and ask to watch the parents run on wild birds, not tame pen raised birds or pigeons in a launcher. That is how you get an idea of how well the dogs are at what they were bred to do. That would be very difficult when I am sending a pup to Europe, Canada, TX, WI, etc...

Train your dog to not go until you release him. That's also the safest thing for your dog and will protect him even more from being shot.

LOL I have a friend of mine who trials both Weims AND JRT"s and they live in NJ! The wife has really gotten into the JRT's and is showing and trialing with them in UKC. I just can't picture the husband sitting ringside at the shows but he does.
