Re: Opinions on hunting a Retriever with a Pointer
I know that I can only speak for my dog and his training. If I do hunt with groups that allow their dogs to race to bird I do I allow my dog to do the same. I now with one blow from a whistle my dog is going to stop on a dime, every time. If my dog chased after I blew my whistle I would have to go b...

Re: Opinions on hunting a Retriever with a Pointer
We hunt with pointers and retrievers in the same field all the time. The pointers seam to go about their business and the flushers do their own thing. All the dogs seem to hunt well together, most of the guys I hunt with don't spend tons of time training so when a bird gets shot its anybody's bird. ...

I believe I read once that a know body had won a National trap or skeet event with a SxS in the last 50 years. If I'm wrong on this please call me on it. I've shot very few of them but when I did they felt a little awkward, probably because I didn't grow up on them.

I think along with your question you should have asked if they trial their dogs also. I think you are going to find that some of the trialers are going to respond that they find it useful and people who only hunt are going to go the opposite way. I am only a hunter and I hunt wild pheasants, I want ...

No your thinking of the bird they call a Snow Cock, you can kill them with a sling shot or just stomp on them with your boot. There defense mechanism is to stick there head under a rock.I've always heard that you could kill Ptarmigan's with a sling shot.

IMO, Any place in the East half of South Dakota you will find pheasants. South Dakota has a book of all the walk-in areas in the state and its free, without a doubt I you should get it. The area I hunt doesn't have a public land and a most of the land owners want cash to hunt their land. If you skip...

+1 on pheasants, but only the wild ones. Take a flusher to a game farm, and you can leave the gun at home while the dogs just catch them.

Ryman, Do you notice any problems with the glare from the stainless steel barrels? I do notice it sometimes on a blued barrel, thought the stainless might be way worse, but haven't seen them in the field. Nice thing about the Red Label is the frames are sized for the gauge.
