Always a hard choice.....
Not a good day for me today ; I had to put my 11 year old dog down yesterday. Woke up yesterday and he couldn't walk ; turns out he had Cushing's disease. Very expensive to find out whether the tumor was on his pituitary gland or on the adrenal gland. You have to know that before giving meds. Also v...

that new pup
We have an " Ontario Out of Doors " magazine that is always excellent. Thought this article posted yesterday might be helpful to new pup owners. "Training the dog is easier than training the handler. "

Even though I am not American , I always personally honor Memorial Day.
My father spent 5 + years overseas with the Hastings Prince Edward Regiment.
He came home a shadow of himself, destined to suffer from PTSD for the rest of his life.
Thanks to Dad and all those Americans who fought for freedom.

Looked out my front window yesterday and see the SWAT tank in my neighbor's laneway , along with 5 police cars. Looked in my back yard , and see two Officers with guns drawn. Maybe I won't let the dog out. An arrest was made . The Officers must have jumped over my back fence , as my ready-to-bloom b...

Ticks and Lyme Disease
Putting this thread here , but fishermen and hunters need to be aware. Some think it is not a big deal; you might get Lyme disease, but it will pass. Not always so. Sometimes (often?) the affects of Lyme disease can last for years. Be cautious. Wear long pants and a long sheaved shirt. Tie off that ...

I'm in SW Ontario. Bears , wolves, lynx are not a problem down here. Coyotes are a huge problem. Not just one coyote , but when they travel in groups. Then again many folks on here have to worry about deadly snakes in SW USA. Running a dog off leash has the possibility of many problems. I think you ...

Well said.
I was at a trial once when the dog couldn't find any planted birds- last dog on the list. She decided to head for the pond and chase the geese , (which she hadn't seen before ) on the pond. The judge was not impressed. Bad memory.

I am no professional , but it has been my experience that every bird is different to a dog. A dog might be great on quail or woodcock, but then use that dog on pheasant and it's a whole different story. Learned this the hard way in trials.

Killing rats all week. Our neighbour seldom puts out his garbage , and his place looks like a junk yard inside and out. Spoil it for him. He's having fun , but that behaviour won't serve you well when hunting . Be glad he has a desire to retrieve , but get on with the force fetch.
