In a wild bird hunting situation, sometimes birds get up wild without the dog being at fault. It’s just a fact of life. A broke dog stopping to flush gives a hunter many more opportunities to shoot birds. I’m not talking about the bird that caused the stop to flush. I’m talking about the birds that ...

My little female is a ball of fire. She's going to make someone a really nice dog. I have a couple people interested in her, but I don't know how serious. Chief is just my old meat dog and best buddy. I hope I'll be able to finish Ace soon. But you never know, I've seen guys chase those last few poi...

Duane Maness in the OKC area is a quality trainer. He's trained two gsp's for me in the past, and several for friends of mine. He's a pointer guy, but trains all breeds.

Show me the whole package of course but you better show me a birddog first. CR CR has judged my dogs before, and you'd better have a real birddog down if he's sitting in the judges saddle. He gained a lot of respect from me that weekend in Colorado, and that of my friends I trial with. --David Scott

Yeah, I was looking at moving to Dodge City, but backed out at the last minute.

I'd really like to see Maggie! I have three broke dogs and several younger dogs that we can run her with. PM me and I'll give you my phone number.

Hey Andy, It's been a while. Give me a holler sometime. How did that little mert female turn out for you? Her brother was a nice birddog, but he just didn't have enough drive for me. I'm back to coaching wrestling again, so won't have as much free time as usual during hunting season. If you feel up ...

I run a few trials in Colorado each year. If you guys want to ride a few braces sometime when I'm there, I'll be more than happy to let you ride. I usually have a spare horse. I probably won't be up there again until next fall, probably the GSP trial in October. Also, if you watch the premiums on fi...

I had the pleasure of hunting over a nery nice Pudelpointer several times this season. I'm a GSP guy myself, but I wouldn't hesitate to own one like her if I did more pheasant hunting. I was very impressed with her tracking and retreiving abilities. She had a great nose. Super nice in the house and ...

I wish the rattler that bit one of my shorthair bitches a few years ago in the back leg knew that runover bites are only supposed to be dry bites.

Sorry to hear of your bad experiences. You have to be about the most unlucky guy I’ve ever heard of. If anything, this shows the importance of having a dog that has been snake proofed AND vaccinated. Anyway, on snake bite mortality..... Here’s a quote from a vet’s webpage in California who has treat...

If a dog is bitten, you pray the bite would be on the face, other wise a rattler bite will kill the dog every time. Hogwash. I've had two bitten in the past four years in southwest Kansas and both survived. One in the front shoulder and one in the back leg. Both swelled up pretty good but were fine...
