Hi All, I'm looking at buying a .40 cal semi auto handgun for home and range. Right now I'm going back and forth between a Glock (if one can be found these days) and a Sig............any input as to which would be a good go to gun? If there are opinions on other brands as well I'd appreciated. Thank...

Thanks for the replies. Being my first bird dog, I was a little paranoid about it at first. And I agree he's a young guy and has really taken off growth wise in the last week or so. I can hope for the best and see how it looks down the road. There haven't been any signs of pain or discomfort and he...

I road my Weim along side my bike on a mix of blacktop, pavement, grass, and gravel and STILL have to trim his nails once every couple of weeks. I've tried to keep them trimmed back as far as possible but without fail, they continue to grow long. Each is different in some aspect I'm assuming.

You're right.............................maybe if a dog was never trained to know the difference between a ball, or a squeak toy and an actual game bird and the intended purposes of each then it might be possible that a resulting hard mouth may result. Again the key to both of my statements lay in t...

Re: Do balls produce hard mouthed dogs?
I believe the greater percentage in this case is incorrect or lack of correction rather than a toy. A dog's "intelligence", smarts, now how, or whatever you want to call it are great enough to discern the difference between a toy and game if and when trained. And if a dog doesn't hold enough smarts ...

Thanks crackerd. Wasn't aware of that. At this stage in the game I use the the retrieves more for excercise than training. I went with the rubber bumper due to durability and cost issues. Dusty has a very good mouth on his retireves I've not had any problems in that area. I appreciate the feedback!

Sounds like the perfect case for a bird launcher. Dog gets birdy but keeps creeping, pop the launcher. He will learn not to crowd/bump the birds and start locking up upon scenting.
