Re: pup brushes me off
Lawnmowers, chainsaws, logsplitters, tractors, they are all part of my lifestyle so the pups need to learn they are not a threat.Did they freak out a bit when first introduced? For sure, but they need to know loud noises are part of life.Just ignore them when they act nervous or skittish and pretty soon ...

Re: Gun Breaking Lab?
If you have a gun-shy dog,you already have a major problem. One that i was not able to fix in a dog that i had, because of lack of knowledge and time.I would be very careful around this dog because you are taking the chance to make the problem much worse than better.A pro with proven results in gun-sh...

Re: the differance in breeds
There is saying that is so true with Britts.A tired Brittany is a good Brittany.Your dog as it gets older will need lots of exercise, daily. They are loveable, high energy dogs that crave mental and physical stimulation. They are escape artists. If you can, take your pup out every day to run the spunk out...

Re: Training a Brittany
When i talk about leash training it is nothing more than teaching the dogs that when on leash i have control. No heeling drills,or whoa drills they are too young.Simply put right now i just work on them not trying to pull my shoulder out of joint.Walking with me while on leash.Pups need to have more ...

Re: Responsible Firearms ownership
I think the NRA has dropped the ball on this and other issues over the years and is why i have not been a member for a number of years.I think that the big debate always comes down to the "assault rifle".I guess i own an assault rifle a SKS.Comparing that rifle an innaccurate,stipper-clip fed relic ...

Re: Training a Brittany
I would get the book for starters. It is a well written book that describes training from several prospectives. With a new pup you will have your hands full with just crate and potty training. Then you move on to the biting, chewing and destroying stuff.I think that every pup needs to know the rules of ...

All anyone needs to know about Notre Dame and it's sacred football program can be found on-line.Punch in Lizzy Seeberg or Declan Sullivan. It is always about the money and the sanctity of the program. I hope much like Penn State that the cover-up gets them. Our universities are supposed to be about le...
Re: Walking
Obidiance training is all you should be concerned about right now,and heeling might be too much for a pup 5 months old,it depends on the dog.If you have no knowledge on the basics hence a trainer or training program.Clickers ,treats, check-cords,and various collars all work if you know how to do it....
Re: Walking
I am getting good results using a Martingale collar on my two 5 month old Britts.Lots of instuction on the net.

Re: Help with my GSP
Well there have been several replies telling you that you have an out of control dog, that needs obedience training.Yet your focus is on what the dog will do sometimes in the field or in a duck blind. You are setting yourself up for failure with this dog if you dont get him under control. The absolute...

Re: Help with my GSP
So if i understand this right you paid a trainer to train this dog,and the dog is completely out of control. The first place i would start is the trainer.A dog this wild at 18 months either was not trained properly,or not trained at all. Training a dog takes a ton of time and patience. This dog should...

Re: Opinion on sportdog collars.
One of my good friends decided to go the cheap route(Sportdog). He is not happy,he spends more time on the phone and shipping transmitters than he does using his collar. You usually get what you pay for.

Re: Welding
A "Buzz Box" would set you back $300 new, half that used. If you are going to play around, have at it.Building a lightweight metal dog box would be near impossible for a beginner.Thin metal takes experience and a lot more complicated welding machine (wire feed or TIG ). You would be better off with wo...

Re: Welding
I was a welder for 31 years.I guess it all depends if you want to make a career out of it,or just want to become a "farm welder". I was reading in the paper that there is a shortage of all craft workers and they are going to be in larger demand as the boomers are retireing in droves. Kids today dont...

Re: double trouble
Well after a few more days the problem i think is our female. She just this morning passed on her food to go harrass her brother who was in his crate. I decided to try feeding her in her crate,we will see how that goes. She seems okay when we seperate them (car rides, seperate romps out in the back 40)...

Re: double trouble
Thanks again for all of the sound advice. One thing i have noticed is that when i take them out in the yard apart from one another,i am their focus instead of each other. The female is the lover of the two and nothing is better for her than to be in your lap for a belly rub. Our male while he likes a...

By the way this is a great board i found it when i go...

We made the mistake of getting littermates. At least from what i have read this was not the wisest choice we could have made.We have a male and a female Brit. I have read tons, after the fact that having littermates can cause all kinds of problems, with that being said the dogs are crated seperatly,the...
